Time to take a look at some Monday-Thursday short-slate DFS.

As always, I encourage you to check out Ryan Hallam’s Weekly Previews to get a deeper look into tonight’s action. In the meantime, here’s a snapshot of each game. Take a read and go build some lineups – remember, I only play GPP tournaments for short slates – then come back and compare to the ones I am leaving here as examples. As always, these are meant to serve as a comparison tool for your own lineups. These aren’t to be taken and submitted into contests as your own.

Here's a breakdown of the two games involved:

Cleveland Browns at New York Jets

Spread: Browns -6.5

O/U: 45

Defense Rankings:

Browns: Run D – 27th Pass D – 20th

Jets: Run D – 22nd Pass D – 6th

Offensive Breakdown:

Passing:

When you look at the initial defensive rankings, you have to take them with a grain of salt. The Jets did a nice job against the Bills in Week 1, but Baker Mayfield is a much different player than Josh Allen . He’s a much better passer and should be able to work this secondary across the middle. The Jets corners are solid but Trumaine Johnson and Darryl Roberts are going to have their issues with Mayfield throwing downfield as well, especially to OBJ. If Mayfield can do a good job of reading his former coach’s defensive schemes (Gregg Williams), he could have a nice night.

With Sam Darnold diagnosed with mono, the reins have been turned over to Trevor Siemian . He never looked good when he was under center in Denver and when the team opted to let him walk in favor of adding Joe Flacco , you couldn’t possibly think he would ever be starting again. Well, never say never, but he is not recommended here unless you want to build a completely contrarian lineup.

Rushing:

Neither run defense looks particularly strong right now so both Nick Chubb and Le’Veon Bell should be in-play tonight. Obviously, there is some concern regarding Bell going in for an MRI on his shoulder, but the team is adamant that it was more precautionary and everything came out clean. Chubb’s a beast and despite my Jets fandom, I am very much looking forward to watching Chubb break into that next level of the Jets defense.

Receiving:

The No. 1 guy is, obviously, Odell Beckham , who makes his return to Met Life Stadium for the first time since leaving the Giants. Same stadium but different team, so you can’t throw the revenge game narrative in here. I wish we could because this is one ugly two-game slate, but nevertheless, you cannot. Still, OBJ is my guy in tonight’s game and I also really like tight end David Njoku . Both Jarvis Landry and Rashard Higgins will be active participants and they could find their way into a lineup or two, but they aren’t my absolute favorites in this match-up.

On the Jets side, again, with Siemian under center, there is obvious concern. I’m immediately out on Robby Anderson who is supposed to be shadowed by Denzel Ward . No thank you. However, Jamison Crowder against T.J. Carrie in the slot is intriguing as is, if he plays, Demaryius Thomas who has history working with Siemian in Denver. You also have a potential sleeper tight end in Ryan Griffin . The Browns gave up 55 yards and two touchdowns to Delanie Walker in Week 1.

Tennessee Titans at Jacksonville Jaguars

Spread: Titans -1.5

O/U: 40

Defense Ranking:

Titans: Run D – 17th Pass D – 2nd

Jaguars: Run D – 25th Pass D – 27th

Offensive Breakdown:

Passing:

While he got off to a decent start this season, Marcus Mariota is going to be in a real tight spot against the Jaguars. Over eight games against the Jags, he’s never thrown for more than 270 yards and has just eight touchdowns to three interceptions. Yeah, but they’re so low in the defensive rankings, Howard. Yes, they are. But that’s what happens when you face Patrick Mahomes in Week 1. Take a look at what this defense did to Deshaun Watson on Sunday.

As for the Jaguars, Gardner Minshew is definitely worth a look here. He was solid in his debut against the Chiefs and managed to hang tough against the Texans as well. The Titans are an aggressive defense as Dean Pees loves to throw blitzes regularly, but so did the defense for the Texans. He seems to be very cool under pressure and if his receivers can shake coverage and be physical coming off the line, Minshew should be able to succeed.

Rushing:

Say yes to Derrick Henry . Yes! The Chiefs running backs were okay against the Jags in Week 1, but it was Carlos Hyde shedding tackles en route to a 90-yard day against the Jaguars is what I am looking at here. You may see the Jags stack the box and force Mariota to throw early, but if he can connect downfield even just a little, Jacksonville will have to pull some guys back into more coverage.

Say yes to Leonard Fournette too. Maybe not as enthusiastic, but a yes anyway. He wasn’t exactly explosive in his first two games and there is definite concern as to his stamina – he faded towards the end of Week 1 and he didn’t get the push he needed for the game-winning 2-point conversion on Sunday. But rather than get down on the guy, expect him to use it as motivation for this game. He needs to show the fans and his coach he can do better.

Receiving:

This is a tough game for receivers. Tight ends, we’ll give it up for Delanie Walker as the Jags struggled against Travis Kelce in Week 1 and gave up 34 yards on three catches against a pair of tight end tomato cans from Houston. With the way Mariota leans on Walker, I expect a solid showing once again. Titans receivers are weak to begin with and you should probably expect Jalen Ramsey to spend most of his time against Corey Davis . That will leave A.J. Brown and Adam Humphries available, but it’s very difficult to imagine either moving the needle much in this match-up.

As for the Jaguars wideouts, D.J. Chark and Dede Westbrook stand out the most for me. Chark will see a lot of Adoree Jackson while Westbrook will see Logan Ryan . Neither corner does a whole lot for me and if you look at the touchdowns the Titans have given up through the air, they’ve all been away from Malcolm Butler . Chark working with Minshew is probably my favorite receiver to use in this entire game.
