What I love so much about early-season MLB is all the great daytime baseball and today is no exception. We’ve got some top starting pitching on the mound, great divisional match-ups and a big, fat 10-game DFS main slate to play. Even better for today, and this comes with apologies to our friends in Colorado, there is no Coors Field on the main slate which means we don’t have to worry about squeezing in overpriced bats.

The Value Vault is loaded with some great opportunities, so let’s just get right to it.

Both Sites:

Brandon Woodruff , SP MIL ($7,600 FD/$7,200 DK) – After a mediocre first start, both DFS sites have Woodruff priced down to the point where he is going to be super-chalky today. That doesn’t mean you can’t use him in GPP tournaments, but he should really be your cash game guy. The Cubs are off to a slow start this season, posting just a .247 wOBA against right-handers with a 29.4-percent strikeout rate. Woodruff should keep the score low and he should provide you with a strong K-rate. The one caveat is the lack of run support the Brewers are providing and he’s opposing Kyle Hendricks , so if the Brewers bats don’t wake up, he may not log that win. Again, you can get away with that in cash, but you want that win-upside in your GPP, especially on DK.

Jesús Aguilar , 1B MIA ($2,800 FD/$3,300 DK) – The big righty hit safely in each of the first four games and then walked in his pinch-hit appearance in yesterday’s game so he’s seeing the ball real well. Jack Flaherty had some issues this spring and it showed even more in his first appearance as he’s leaving the ball up in the zone and giving up, not just hits, but home runs as well. At this price, if Aguilar can get a hold of just one…buh-bye.

Donovan Solano , 2B SF ($2,900 FD/$3,000 DK) – He also has shortstop eligibility on FanDuel so there’s some roster flexibility to be had here as well. Solano isn’t built for power, but if you need to save some salary and don’t want to take a zero trying to chase a home run, he’s providing decent stability at the plate right now. Before getting the day off yesterday, Solano had four-straight multi-hit games and went 9-for-14 (.643) with two doubles, two RBI, four runs scored and he even stole a base. It’s a tough match-up against Blake Snell , but Solano hits lefties really well and is dialed in right now.

Draft Kings:

Jorge Soler , OF KC ($2,800) – There is obvious risk given Shane Bieber ’s strikeout potential and Soler does love to swing for the fences, but while Bieber fanned 12 in his debut, he also allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while allowing right-handed batters to post a .409 wOBA against him. Not a big sample size, by any means, but Soler could be an interesting contrarian play in a GPP who will also save you some salary.

Fan Duel:

Jake Cronenworth, 1B/2B SD ($3,200) – He’s really dialed in at the plate right now, hitting safely in five of six games with a pair of doubles. The Padres have him at the top of the order right now and the lefty is a career .321 hitter against right-handed pitching with a .407 wOBA. I’m not a big believer in Kevin Gausman , so I’ll take this slight discount and see if he fits best in at first or second for me.

AJ Pollock , OF LAD ($2,500) – He should be in the lineup with the Dodgers facing a lefty in Jesús Luzardo and the 33-year-old has hit safely in four of five games with four runs scored. Pollock also has a career .362 wOBA against southpaws and he generates the majority of his power against them, as evidenced by the .237 ISO split. It will be even more encouraging if manager Dave Roberts bats him second again, like he did the other day when they faced a lefty. Keep your eyes peeled for that lineup.

Akil Baddoo, OF ($2,000) – I mean…..how do you not play him if he’s in the lineup? All he does is hit and he’s at the minimum price here. Seriously….he sat the first two games, started the third, homered on the first pitch he saw, started the fourth, hit a grand slam and then sat the fifth but came in as a pinch-hitter and hit the game-winning RBI-single. Draft Kings priced him up to $3,500, but FanDUel is lagging so take advantage. It would be criminal if he’s in the Tigers starting lineup and he’s not in your DFS lineup. Kenta Maeda or not, you gotta Baddoo.
