Julian Edelman announced his retirement.

Edelman, 34, had basically spent the past two seasons attempting to improve his knee to no avail. He hangs up his cleats after an extremely successful career with the Patriots, arriving via a seventh-round pick in the 2009 draft and finishing after 11 seasons with 620 catches for 6,822 yards and 36 touchdowns, 58 rushing attempts for 413 yards, 177 punt returns for 1,986 yards and four touchdowns, 30 kick returns for 626 yards, and six completions on six passing attempts for 128 yards with one score and a perfect 158.3 passer rating. He has an outside shot of qualifying for the Hall of Fame on his postseason resume (118/1,422/5) alone.

Patriots released WR Julian Edelman.

Edelman's contract was terminated following a failed physical. Although there likely isn't a market for a veteran slot guy who turns 35 in May and underwent knee surgery in October, there's a terrific chance Tom Brady rallies the front office to make room for his old teammate in Tampa Bay; the Buccaneers still have a need there with Antonio Brown reportedly holding out for more money. It's also possible this move is a precursor to Edelman simply walking away after winning three rings and one Super Bowl MVP award in 11 seasons with New England. The transaction frees up $3.4 million in cap space for the Pats.

Bengals claimed TE Thaddeus Moss off waivers from Washington.

Moss (6'1/250) was hyped as an option in Washington prior to undergoing Jones Fracture surgery last August if only because the team was short viable options behind Logan Thomas. 23 in May, Moss is merely a low-risk, low-upside option catching passes once again from collegiate teammate Joe Burrow.

Buccaneers signed RB Giovani Bernard, formerly of the Bengals, to a one-year contract.

Bernard, who had at least 30 catches in all eight seasons he played with the Bengals, adds another receiving option to Tampa Bay's backfield ahead of Ronald Jones. The deal also likely takes the Bucs out of contention for a back in the draft, though Leonard Fournette's, Jones', and Bernard's contracts all expire at the end of this year. Bernard will be more of a nuisance for fantasy than actual option among this group. Ke'Shawn Vaughn is the early favorite to be healthy scratched behind all on game days.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports free agent RB James Conner underwent surgery to repair "a very moderate" turf toe-type injury this offseason.

A "full recovery" is expected by June, but it's still a concern considering Conner has yet to play 16 contests in any season, appearing in just 23-of-32 possible games the past two years. He'll receive a physical with the Cardinals before potentially inking a one-year deal, but that shouldn't stop fantasy players from coveting Chase Edmonds as a clear-cut top-16 option (with upside). Conner should be considered questionable for any spring workouts.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports free agent DE Jadeveon Clowney is scheduled to visit with the Browns again on Wednesday.

He'll fly to Cleveland Tuesday night and visit with the team (again) on Wednesday. Nothing is reportedly imminent at this moment, but odds are Clowney wouldn't fly to speak with the front office again if a contract weren't waiting for him to sign upon arrival. The 28-year-old stands to benefit immensely opposite All-World EDGE Myles Garrett, undoubtedly reaping the rewards of one-on-one blocking with any one-year deal. It's a rare win-win scenario for both parties.

Free agent RB James Conner is scheduled to visit the Cardinals Monday.

It's Conner's first known visit since hitting the open market. The Cardinals will undoubtedly add to its backfield this offseason since only Jonathan Ward, D.J. Foster, and Eno Benjamin are currently available behind Chase Edmonds, but none of that group moves the needle as players that would eat into Edmonds' inevitable work(horse)load. Even if Conner were to put pen to paper, fantasy players should worry about a(ny) backfield selection with the No. 16 and 49 overall picks making an impact before the former.

CB A.J. Bouye's deal with the Panthers is worth $7 million over two years.

The terms of the deal weren't made available when the Panthers signed the former Bronco last week. Bouye, soon to be 30, will be suspended for the first two games of the 2021 season, but should work his way into Carolina's starting lineup soon thereafter. The former Pro Bowler missed much of the 2020 season with a shoulder injury.
