TE Logan Thomas "immediately became the team’s top tight end" when Washington signed him this offseason, per Sports Illustrated's Bryan Manning.

Acknowledging tight end as a serious weak spot of the Washington offense, Manning sees Thomas as the most likely to emerge from the team's crop of unproven tight ends. In April, Football Team HC Ron Rivera praised Thomas' "smarts, savvy and athletic ability." Thomas, who converted from quarterback to tight end four years ago, profiles as an intriguing tight end based on his 91st percentile speed score and 94th percentile catch radius. Playing time and production are different issues altogether. He saw 28 targets for Detroit last season, catching 16 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown. Best ball players might be able to talk themselves into taking Thomas at the very end of drafts.

The veteran started three games for the Raiders last year after starting 16 games for the Giants as a free safety in 2018. Riley could end up playing free safety for Pittsburgh, which didn't address the position during the offseason.

Cardinals placed TE Maxx Williams (illness) on the active/NFI list.

Maxx Williams and OT Marcus Gilbert were both placed on the active/NFI list. Neither are a lock to start but Williams has a chance to begin the season at the top of a weak tight end unit. He recorded 15 receptions for 202 yards in his first season with the Cardinals. Charles Clay was the veteran tight end's biggest competition for targets and is no longer with the team. Williams could secure a significant role in the offense if he holds off Dan Arnold.

Cardinals placed OT Marcus Gilbert (illness) on the active/NFI list.

Gilbert was placed on the active/NFI list along with Maxx Williams. Williams only caught 15 passes in 2019 but had a chance of securing the starting job with Charles Clay no longer a Cardinal. Gilbert was unlikely to start but the 32-year-old could add much-needed depth to a weak Arizona line.

Jets released OG Brian Winters.

Winters suffered a dislocated shoulder that ended his season after nine games last year. He started in all nine in 2019 and 16 in 2018. The veteran guard started a total of 79 games for Gang Green in seven years of service. Winters isn't expected to be a free agent for long. He could compete for a starting job on any team thin at interior offensive line. Greg Van Roten, who the Jets added this offseason, is the likely starter in place of Winters. The move saves New York $7.2 million in cap space.

Jaguars placed RB Ryquell Armstead on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Armstead was added to the list along with four other Jaguars including QB Gardner Minshew. Armstead didn't contribute much in his rookie season until Week 17 when he filled in for an injured Leonard Fournette. He carried the ball 10 times for 33 yards while adding 52 yards and a score on five receptions. Armstead is the clear backup and would have immediate fantasy value if Fournette misses time. Devine Ozigbo is next in line as Fournette's replacement.

Lions placed DL Austin Bryant on the active/PUP list.

Detroit selected Austin Bryant in with the 117th overall pick in the 2019 draft. Bryant missed most of his first season with a pectoral injury, appearing in just four games. He recorded 1 QB hit and eight tackles.

Dolphins placed LG Ereck Flowers on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

It's an inauspicious Dolphins start for the $30 million free agent, though he still has weeks to get cleared for Week 1. Flowers' conditioning could certainly be an early-season issue, however. Flowers is a big part of the Dolphins' plan to turn around their laughably bad 2019 run blocking.
