Top Guards

Mason Jones - Arkansas ($8,600 DK / $8,000 FD)

Arkansas’ do-it-all point guard has been a DFS stud all season and he’s in a very good spot tonight while coming in red-hot. Mason Jones has scored 30+ real points in back-to-back games, and has put up at least 32 DK points in five straight, including 55 and 43 DK points over the last two, respectively. He’s benefiting right now with an increase in usage and shot attempts in Arkansas’ offense as Isaiah Joe remains limited with a knee injury, and Joe possibly could be out tonight. During SEC play, Jones’ 32% usage rate is tops in the conference and his 28% shots share, 27% assist rate, and 19% defensive rebounding rate are all top ten marks. The junior can play multiple positions in the versatile Razorbacks’ rotation, and he’s able to stuff the stat sheet with how fast they usually play on both ends. We should expect a ton of stats, scoring, assisting, rebounding and steals in an up-tempo matchup vs. Auburn tonight.

Cassius Winston - Michigan State ($7,900 DK / $7,600 FD)

Most DFS CBB players have probably stayed away from Cassius Winston over the past month, as he mostly hasn’t performed like one of the top point guards on the slate. Recently, though, he’s starting to produce like an elite player once again as the offensive catalyst of the Michigan State attack. The senior is coming off a Saturday outing at Wisconsin where he scored 23 real points and 36 DK points, his second time in three games where he had at least 36 DK points. Admittedly, we here at Fantasy Alarm virtually ignored Winston because he was only providing 20-30 DK points at an 8k price tag. It was only a month ago, though, when he was consistently putting up 40-50 DK points per game as the stat-stuffing stud we all know. It looks like he’s getting back to being that type of player for DFS, and this is a good “buy low” spot in a pace-up matchup vs. Penn State at home.

Immanuel Quickley - Kentucky ($6,300 DK / $6,200 FD)

The casual college basketball fan may have forgotten about Immanuel Quickley, but it’s time for the DFS CBB community to take notice. The sophomore started the year off slow, but he’s become a focal point of the Kentucky offense during conference play, and he’s been able to be very productive despite sharing the ball in a balanced UK attack. Ashton Hagans, Nick Richards and Tyrese Maxey may be more well-known nationally, but it’s Quickley who’s been very consistent for DFS recently. Over the past ten games, the shooting guard is averaging 17.5 real points and 29 DK points per game with five of those outings resulting in 32 or more DK points. With the way he’s playing, his salary probably should be in the 7k range on both sites, so let’s jump on the value while we still can.

Jaden Shackelford - Alabama ($5,900 DK / $5,300 FD)

Shackelford was already a solid value for us in recent games and he’s still firmly in play tonight despite the increased salary. The freshman exploded for 28 real points and 43 DK points on Saturday as he’s been much more involved offensively since joining the starting rotation in mid-January. It was his second consecutive game where he scored 20+ points and had 19 or more shot attempts with 13 coming from three-point range. This huge increase in shots share for Alabama is really encouraging for Shackelford’s DFS value because he’s emerged as one of the go-to scoring options on a team that likes to play at a fast tempo. Last game, he benefited from the Crimson Tide missing Herbert Jones and James Bolden, and we can expect this usage to continue tonight because Jones is out indefinitely with a broken wrist and Bolden’s minutes will be limited as he returns from an illness. Shackelford has now scored in double figures in five straight and has been consistently putting up 25 or more DK points during this recent span. He’s a near-lock for cash games today.

CJ Walker - Ohio State ($5,200 DK / $5,500 FD)

As Ohio State continues to deal with DJ Carton’s absence, it’s CJ Walker who should get all the point guard minutes moving forward and he’s still a really good value until his salaries adjust. On Saturday, the Buckeyes’ first game without Carton, Walker played a team-high 36 minutes and put up 28.5 DK points on his 14 actual points scored, four assists, two rebounds and three steals. With no timetable for Carton’s return, he’s left the team with mental health issues, we should expect Walker to continue to play this much with additional offensive usage as the only true point guard in the rotation. If we’re getting 25-30 DFS points at these price tags, the junior is a huge value until he’s in 6k range.

Alondes Williams - Oklahoma ($4,400 DK / $4,100 FD)

Even in a tough matchup vs. Texas Tech’s defense, Alondes Williams is a solid value tonight because of his increased playing time and role for Oklahoma lately. The junior comes off the bench but he provides an offensive spark when he’s on the court, which has been 23 minutes in each of the past two games and at least 17 minutes over the last four. Williams has now scored in double figures in three consecutive games as he’s seeing high offensive usage when he’s out there in a sixth-man role. In these last three games, where he’s averaging 13.3 real points and 18.6 DK points, Williams threw down some impressive dunks and seemed to wake up the Sooners’ offense in relief of regular starters Jamal Bieniemy and De’Vion Harmon. During conference play, his 22% usage rate and 21% shots share are higher than both Bieniemy and Harmon’s. He should see enough minutes to return value and potentially 4x or 5x his price tag.

Other Guards to Consider:

  • Charlie Moore - DePaul ($8,500 DK / $7,400 FD)
  • John Petty Jr. - Alabama ($7,700 DK / $6,500 FD)
  • Nick Weatherspoon - Mississippi State ($7,000 DK / $6,500 FD)
  • Tyrese Maxey - Kentucky ($6,800 DK / $5,400 FD)
  • Duane Washington - Ohio State ($5,000 DK / $4,400 FD)
  • Rocket Watts - Michigan State ($4,400 DK / $4,300 FD)

Top Forwards

Jalen Smith - Maryland ($8,700 DK / $8,600 FD)

Maryland’s sophomore big man is playing out of his mind lately, and his dominance is a big reason why the Terps have climbed to #9 in the latest AP Poll. Smith has put up 42 or more DK points in four straight games, with a double-double in each outing, while averaging 22.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and three blocks per game during that span. It’s clear the Maryland offense has changed to feature Smith more, whether it’s feeding him in the post or getting him open looks from three-point range, and he’s taken full advantage of the increase in usage. In these recent performances, Smith has largely been the best player on the court, and that’s in matchups against Iowa’s Luka Garza and the strong frontcourt duos of Indiana and Purdue. He should have no problem having another big game at home tonight against the guard-dominant Rutgers lineups.

Vernon Carey - Duke ($8,400 DK / $7,900 FD)

Earlier this month, it was really hard to trust Vernon Carey at his expensive price tags because he struggled to even see 30 minutes per game and was simply not returning enough DFS value. Lately, though, that trend has changed with Carey putting up 50 DK points in back-to-back games in two dominant efforts. Against Pitt and Syracuse the last two games, Duke’s freshman center averaged 26 points and 15 rebounds with double-digit shot attempts in both. Carey will again have a big advantage in the paint tonight vs. Boston College, who is one of the worst rebounding teams in the ACC and have given up some big games to opposing bigs during conference play. When Duke played BC earlier this season, Carey had 28 DK points with his nine points scored, nine rebounds, and four blocks. It was a fairly average stat line from a guy who’s capable of much bigger numbers, but it’s important to note that Carey played only 20 minutes in an easy 39-point Duke win. A blowout is certainly on the table again tonight for the Blue Devils, but it’s hard to ignore Carey’s last two games and the hot streak he’s on.

Brandon Johns Jr. - Michigan ($4,700 DK / $4,900 FD)

Johns has been a solid value with Isaiah Livers out this past month, and he’s definitely in play again even with an increased salary now. Livers recently re-aggravated his groin injury and has been out the past two games and sounds unlikely to play tonight. In his stead, Johns has responded with a couple massive performances over the last two outings. The sophomore has scored a new career-high in both these games with 16 points vs. Nebraska and then 20 points vs. Rutgers on Saturday. He’s clearly gotten more comfortable with the extended playing time with Livers out, and it’s resulted in him being a smash DFS play. In these last two games, Johns is draining threes (4-of-7 from deep last game), grabbing rebounds (seven boards in both), and adding a slew of ancillary stats to return value, all en route to 27 and 39 DK points, respectively. Johns’ three-point shooting is key tonight as Ohio State does not defend the perimeter well and allows a ton of opposing points via the three.

Javian Davis - Alabama ($4,200 DK / $4,300 FD)

Davis began the season starting the majority of Alabama’s games in the frontcourt, and then he went to the bench and played limited minutes as he battled a knee injury over the past couple weeks. Tonight, though, he’s a very solid value as he’s regained a starting job for the Tide and will have to play much more now that Herbert Jones is out indefinitely. With Jones out on Saturday, Davis re-entered the starting rotation for the first time in a month and put up 21 DK points with his 11 points scored, two rebounds and three blocks. We should see Davis start again tonight and the matchup is a favorable one as Tennessee is one of the worst rebounding teams in the SEC.

Uros Plavsic - Tennessee ($4,000 DK / $3,600 FD)

When Plavsic made his Vols debut in mid-January, he was a massive value because he was getting 15 or so minutes with huge offensive usage at min price. Then the 7-foot freshman only saw six total minutes over a two-game span just last week and was totally out of play. On Saturday, though, Plavsic interestingly entered the starting rotation for the first time and scored 16 points on 32% usage en route to 23 DK points. Head coach Rick Barnes said the lineup change was due to seeing what Plavsic could do with the extended playing time as Tennessee’s other forwards have not been getting it done inside this year. Considering he was really good, in a tough matchup vs. Mississippi State’s Reggie Perry, no less, we should expect him to start once again tonight and get another crack at increased minutes with a ton of usage on offense.
