Top Guards

Markus Howard & Sacar Anim - Marquette

As with most DFS CBB slates that Marquette appears on, Markus Howard is the best player in action on the early schedule today, but there is a legit question mark as to whether he’ll play or not. Howard ($9,400 DK / $8,500 FD) took an elbow to the face in the second half of Wednesday’s win at Xavier, and ended up sitting out the final 12 minutes. He remains questionable to play today and we likely won’t know whether he’ll be active or not until warm-ups ahead of this 2 pm ET tipoff. If Howard does play, though, we shouldn’t hesitate to roll him out, even at his expensive price tags because he’s been well worth it. Plus, we shouldn’t worry too much about re-injury because the medical staff wouldn’t have cleared him to play if that was the case. On the other hand, if Howard is out then this opens up Sacar Anim as a really good value with the added offensive usage and shot volume. On Wednesday, Anim ($6,800 DK / $6,500 FD) finished with 49 DK points and 28 points scored following Howard’s early exit. He’s now scored 20+ points in three straight games and would be Marquette’s top scoring option (along with Koby McEwan) if Markus Howard sits today.

Charlie Moore - DePaul ($8,300 DK / $7,600 FD)

On the other side of that Marquette game is DePaul and their stud point guard Charlie Moore. With how fast both these offenses to play, both teams are firmly in play with one of the highest over/unders on today’s slate. Moore is the best per-dollar option for DePaul. Over the last ten games, Moore is putting up 33 DK points per outing while averaging 16 points, 6.4 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.8 steals. His DFS floor is usually pretty safe because of his tendency to rack up enough assists and rebounds even if he’s not scoring in volume, which is always on the table for him in quick-paced games. Since Big East play began, Moore’s 28% usage rate, 26% shots share, 38% assist rate, and 92% minutes share are all top ten marks in the conference and all lead the team. Opposing frontcourts have begun to limit Paul Reed’s effectiveness down low and it’s resulted in Moore having to do more of the scoring and playmaking on his own. If Markus Howard is indeed out today, or if you’re hesitant to play him at his expensive price tag,  pivoting to Moore is a very solid option in a quick-tempo matchup.

David Johnson - Louisville ($5,500 DK / $4,800 FD)

Johnson has been a solid value option in recent weeks, and his price tag is finally starting to catch up to his production. Still, the Louisville freshman is cheap enough to roll out once again in a pace-up matchup vs. NC State. Although he comes off the bench, Johnson actually leads the Cardinals in offensive usage (31%) and is third in shots share (25%) during conference play. Plus, he’s been playing more minutes than starter Lamarr Kimble over the last couple games as his bench scoring and defense is clearly helping Louisville win games more comfortably. Over the last two games, Johnson has played 24 and 25 minutes in a reserve role while putting up 25 and 29 DK points, respectively, and he’s only a couple weeks removed from dropping 42 DK points vs. Duke. We’ve seen his DK salary rise nearly $2,000 since that outburst and it will only continue to increase with how well he’s playing.

C.J. Walker & Duane Washington - Ohio State

Ohio State’s backcourt will have a big shakeup today after freshman point guard DJ Carton announced he’s temporarily stepping away from the team due to mental health issues. Carton had been playing a key role off the bench and as a part-time starter this season, so there will now be a ton of usage, minutes, and production to go around for the rest of the Buckeye guards. C.J. Walker ($5,000 DK / $5,500 FD) has already been starting at point guard all season and he should get all the playing time he can handle today as no one else besides Carton and Walker have played the point position during conference play. The junior will likely be the main assist man for Ohio State with Carton out. Then there’s Duane Washington ($5,100 DK / $4,700 FD). The sophomore has been in-and-out of the starting rotation this year but he’ll now take over Carton’s role as the scoring sixth-man. Washington has seen double-digit shot attempts in three straight games and put up at least 16 DK points in all three outings, and he’s actually leading Ohio State in shots share (38%) during Big Ten action.

Brevin Pritzl - Wisconsin ($4,700 DK / $4,000 FD)

With Kobe King leaving the program earlier this week, Prtizl was already a solid value with his increase in playing time and offensive/defensive role. However, he is an even better play today with Wisconsin missing another guard. Starter Brad Davison is suspended today and this is a big loss as the junior had the team’s highest minutes share during conference play and played both the shooting guard and small forward positions. Now, with King and Davison out this leaves Pritzl as the defacto “next man up” who should play a ton today and be a lot more involved on both ends to rack up stats. In increased playing time last game (with King out), Pritzl played 32 minutes and had 16.5 DK points off the bench. We should see the senior move into the starting rotation to replace Davison now, and those near-guaranteed minutes will help him return value at these salaries on both sites, especially on FanDuel.

Other Guards to Consider:

  • Tyrese Haliburton - Iowa State ($9,000 DK Only)
  • Colin Gillespie - Villanova ($7,700 DK / $6,500 FD)
  • Nick Weatherspoon - Mississippi State ($6,800 DK / $6,300 FD)
  • Denzel Mahoney - Creighton ($5,700 DK / $5,200 FD)
  • Henry Baddley - Butler ($4,200 DK / $3,400 FD)
  • Donovan Williams - Texas ($3,800 DK Only)

Top Forwards

Reggie Perry - Mississippi State ($8,900 DK / $7,900 FD)

Some may still be scared to roster Reggie Perry after he burned DFS lineups a week ago with his 15.5 DK points at a similar price tag. However, we can confidently go back to him on this slate because he has a favorable matchup and owns one of the highest ceilings of any player today. Perry returned to form on Tuesday when he scored a career-high 27 points and had 36.5 DK points on the road vs. Florida. Despite that dud last week, he’s still averaging 39 DK points, 19.6 actual points and 10.8 rebounds over the last ten games. He is just a week removed from dropping 51 DK points in back-to-back outings. The sophomore big man will benefit from facing one of the worst rebounding teams in the SEC, and Tennessee’s frontcourt has allowed some big performances to opposing centers. Plus, Perry has performed much better at home this season, averaging 40 DK points at home vs. 30 DK points on the road.

Jordan Nwora - Louisville ($7,900 DK / $7,700 FD)

If you rostered Nwora on Wednesday, you likely cashed easily as the Preseason ACC Player of the Year dropped 55 DK points with 37 actual points scored. This outburst was actually the first time he had more than 30 DK points in six games, dating back to January 7th when he had 44.5 vs. Miami. In between, we consistently saw Nwora fail to return value on his expensive price tags with pedestrian numbers on a balanced Louisville team. Although we can’t expect him to repeat his performance from earlier this week, Nwora should be able to take advantage today in a pace-up matchup against a poor rebounding team in NC State. The junior power forward definitely has the talent to get hot from three again like he did on Wednesday, going 7-for-14 from downtown. If he’s dominating on the boards, though, Nwora would be a very good GPP play, but limit your exposure to tournaments because he could return to 20-25 DK points.

Jeremiah Robinson-Earl - Villanova ($7,500 DK / $7,100 FD)

Villanova’s freshman center has unsurprisingly gone through his fair share of ups and downs in his first collegiate season, but he’s in a favorable matchup today and has been playing much better recently. Robinson-Earl is coming off a 13 point, 14 rebound performance last time out when he had 35 DK points. That was his fifth time in the last seven games where he had at least 31 DK points. He’s also scored in double-digits for six straight games and grabbed 10 or more boards in three of those outings. ‘Nova’s big man will now face a Creighton squad that’s the worst rebounding team in the Big East, and Robinson-Earl put up 33 DK points with 14 boards against them earlier this month. With his advantage in the paint while playing at home, we should expect another 30 or more DK points from him today, making him a slight bargain compared to other high-priced forwards.

Gabe Osabuohien - West Virginia ($5,000 DK / $5,200 FD)

The Mountaineers usually aren’t a safe avenue for DFS because they play a very deep rotation and any of their ten regular contributors can have a good or bad game on any given day. Despite those facts, Gabe Osabuohien has been pretty consistent recently as a key piece during Big 12 action. The sophomore has put up at least 20 DK points in five straight games and he’s getting it done in a variety of ways. He had 15 points vs. Texas Tech last time out, 12 rebounds vs. Missouri the game before and five rebounds, five assists and three steals a few games prior vs. TCU. Although he comes off the bench, Osabuohien usually will generate enough stats in multiple categories to return value on both sites. Keep in mind, there is some risk to rostering him because his minutes aren’t regularly guaranteed, but he’s proven he can be valuable despite that limitation.

Montavious Murphy - Kansas State ($4,400 DK / $4,100 FD)

We’ve said it multiple times when Kansas State is on the slate, Montavious Murphy is underpriced for what his production has been lately. The freshman has put up 25 and 20 DK points in the last two games, respectively, and is consistently playing 25-30 minutes in the Wildcats’ frontcourt rotation. Over these past two outings, Murphy has benefited from an increase in playing time and offensive/defensive role because of the absence of Antonio Gordon who will be suspended today for his third and final game stemming from his role in the fight with Kansas players. We should continue to see Murphy start, as he has been the last two games, and return enough value on both sites to be a solid salary-saver in cash games.
