Top Guards

Myles Powell - Seton Hall ($8,400 DK / $8,000 FD)

Any time Seton Hall is on the slate, we need to strongly consider Myles Powell no matter the price tag because of his near-monopoly of usage and shot volume on offense. The senior shooting guard has a 35% offensive usage rate and a 40% shots share this season - marks that are the 12th and 6th highest in the entire country, respectively, and are miles ahead of any other Seton Hall player. Plus, he’ll will likely see even more usage and volume going forward with big man Sandro Mamukelashvili out for the next couple months. Powell’s high usage has helped him average 22.9 real points and 34.6 DK points on 17.8 shots per game so far. He has the legit upside to score 30 and put up 50 DFS points on a daily basis when he gets into a shooting groove - something that could happen today because Rutgers does not defend the three-point line well while Powell has gone 40% on 88 three-point attempts.

Lamonte Turner - Tennessee ($8,100 DK / $7,100 FD)

With Tennessee losing so much talent this offseason, Turner has had to take over a much larger offensive role and he hasn’t disappointed. The senior point guard leads the team in a bunch of advanced stats including offensive usage rate (31%), shots share (28%), steals rate and fouls drawn rate. Plus, his team-high 45% assist rate is actually the 5th-best mark in the whole country as he’s averaging 7.6 assists per game with two outings of double-digits already. Overall, he’s averaging 33.3 DK points this season and his DFS floor remains very high because of his huge offensive role - especially as a passer. He should have an advantage in his individual matchup today vs. Memphis, who don’t have many defensive-minded guards who will be able to slow down Turner. He’s a very good cash play on both sites but his FD price makes him a nice value in the higher price range over there.

Mac McClung - Georgetown ($5,900 DK / $6,500 FD)

Following the departures of James Akinjo and Josh LeBlanc earlier this month, we knew that McClung would see a massive increase in usage and shot volume - but it was just a matter of what he would do with the bigger role. Well, the sophomore has responded with a pair of big DFS performances in the two games without Akinjo and LeBlanc so far. McClung scored 33 points with 41 DK points vs. Oklahoma State and then had 19 points, seven assists and four rebounds with 39.5 DK points vs. SMU. In those two games, McClung had team-high usage rates of 32% and 29% and went 9-for-17 from three-point range (53%). His three-point shooting will definitely come in handy against Syracuse today because one of the best ways to beat the ‘Cuse zone defense is via the deep ball. Last year vs. the Orange, McClung went 3-for-11 from three and finished with 18 points on a team-high 33% usage rate. So far this season, he’s shooting 43% from three-point range. With the recent news that two Georgetown bench players, Galen Alexander and Myron Gardner, will be transferring now too, McClung will presumably see even more usage, minutes and shot volume. He’ll be very chalky on this slate but the price tag is very attractive if he’s giving us 35-40 DFS points yet again.

Jared Rhoden - Seton Hall ($5,000 DK / $4,400 FD)

The Pirates are playing their first game since losing big man Sandro Mamukelashvili to injury, and Rhoden is expected to see an increase in playing time beginning today. Reports indicate that Rhoden will enter Seton Hall’s starting rotation at the four vs. Rutgers in Mamukelashvili’s absence, with Tyrese Samuel also seeing an uptick in minutes. The sophomore was already seeing the second-highest offensive usage and shots share on the team behind only Myles Powell - and those chances would presumably go up now that he’s starting. Over the first nine games of this season, Rhoden was averaging 18.3 DK points per game with a team-high 10.3% offensive rebounding rate off the bench. Now that he’ll be playing more minutes, he can easily return 4x or better value on both sites today. Take note that Rhoden is also forward-eligible on DK, making him a nice asset for roster construction.

Quentin Goodin - Xavier ($4,700 DK / $4,700 FD)

We’re finally starting to see Goodin’s price tag rise, but he’s still too cheap for what his current role is for Xavier. The senior guard is one of the team’s emotional leaders this year, he’s started all 10 games thus far with a 72% minutes share and he’s second on the team in assist rate behind Naji Marshall. Goodin has put up at least 26 DK points in each of the last two games and at least 22 DK points in three of the last four. He admittedly started the season low - hence the lower price tag than usual - but Goodin is ramping up his production in all stat categories lately, making him a value still. With how many minutes he’s playing in Xavier’s tight rotation, Goodin can easily provide 4x or 5x value on both sites with his ancillary stats.

Terrell Allen - Georgetown ($4,200 DK / $4,200 FD)

Allen moved into the starting rotation as Georgetown’s lead point guard when James Akinjo left the program earlier this month, and he’s been a very good value with the increase in role and a price tag that’s still way too cheap. In the last two games as the Hoyas’ starting PG, Allen has played 33 and 29 minutes, respectively, with 23 DK points in both outings. With this extended playing time, he’s shown he can provide value as both a pure scorer when he had 15 points vs. Oklahoma State - or as a distributor when he dished out 10 assists vs. SMU. The senior transfer leads the team in assist rate (23%) now that Akinjo is gone - something he did last year with UCF as well. We should expect another 30 or more minutes from Allen again today and he’ll have a much bigger role on offense moving forward with Georgetown also losing two role players to transfer this week. Eventually we’ll see his salary move above 5k and hover in the 6k range this season, so let’s take advantage of the extreme discount while we still can.

Other Guards to Consider:

  • Jordan Goodwin - Saint Louis ($8,700 DK / $8,300 FD)

  • Payton Pritchard - Oregon ($8,400 DK / $7,800 FD)

  • Joseph Girard - Syracuse ($5,900 DK / $4,900 FD)

  • Franz Wagner - Michigan ($4,500 DK / $4,500 FD)

  • Khalil Whitney - Kentucky ($3,900 DK Only)

  • Jahvon Blair - Georgetown ($3,700 DK / $3,800 FD)

Top Forwards

Elijah Hughes - Syracuse ($8,600 DK / $8,100 FD)

Everyone will be targeting the Georgetown players with so much value there, but we should also be looking on the other side of this matchup in Syracuse’s best player. Hughes has been stuffing the stat sheet all season long and it’s led to him averaging 36.9 DK points per game with only two games with less than 30 DK points. The junior wing leads the Orange in minutes share with a whopping 90.8% - the 27th-best mark in the whole country. That massive playing time has allowed Hughes to accrue a team-high offensive usage rate with a 26% shots share and 25% assist rate. His solid stat line of 19.6 points, 4.8 assists and four rebounds per game gives him one of the highest DFS floors on this whole slate. Plus, there’s a lot of upside for him today vs. a Georgetown team that does not defend the three-point line well. Meanwhile, Hughes leads ‘Cuse in three-point shooting with his 43.8% from deep on 73 attempts thus far.

Precious Achiuwa - Memphis ($7,900 DK / $7,500 FD)

While Memphis still awaits James Wiseman’s return to the court next month, Precious Achiuwa will continue to be their main offensive weapon for the time being. The freshman big man currently leads the team in offensive usage rate (28%), shots share (27%), minutes share, rebounding, block rate and fouls drawn. That’s a ton of stat categories to lead your team in and it’s why Achiuwa’s DFS floor remains high right now. Plus, he’s had to do even more offensively lately with Lester Quinones sidelined. In Memphis’ six games without Wiseman, Achiuwa is averaging 38.6 DK points with per-game averages of 16 points, 11.2 rebounds, two blocks and 1.7 steals. Although he’ll have a tough matchup today vs. a strong Tennessee defense, Achiuwa’s DFS floor is fairly high because of his extremely high usage and shot volume as the clear-cut No. 1 option on offense for Memphis.

Mike Watkins - Penn State ($7,700 FD Only)

If you’re playing on FanDuel today, we definitely want exposure to this Penn State team as they are projected to score the most points on that slate and will be in a fast-paced matchup vs. Alabama. The Nittany Lions have two players that are worth paying up for in Lamar Stevens and Mike Watkins. They’re separated by just $100 on FD, but Watkins might have the better individual matchup today and thus the higher DFS ceiling. Alabama is not a good defensive rebounding team and they get their shots blocked at one of the worst rates in the country. These are two areas where Watkins can take advantage of. The 6-foot-9 senior center leads PSU in defensive rebounding rate (28.3%) and blocks shots at the 6th-highest rate in the nation with 3.8 per game through the first 10 games. He’s coming off a performance against Maryland where he put up 36 FD points with 15 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks. He’s blocked four or more shots in four of the last five games - and those came against good competition in Maryland, Syracuse, Wake Forest and Ole Miss. Watkins will have a big size and skill advantage in the frontcourt against ‘Bama today and he can easily have another 30-35 DFS points.

EJ Montgomery - Kentucky ($6,000 DK Only)

Montgomery was eased back into Kentucky’s rotation when he returned from an ankle injury last month, but he’s now become a focal part of their offense lately. He put up 29.5 and 39.75 DK points in the last two games as he re-entered the UK starting rotation. The increase in offensive role - and starts - is helped by Nate Sestina’s injury but it’s also encouraging to see Montgomery back to full strength and playing time. In these last two games, the 6-foot-10 sophomore is averaging 20.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.5 blocks in 29 minutes per game. Montgomery has been playing alongside Nick Richards in the frontcourt and it’s allowed him to have a bigger role offensively with Richards taking on the defensive center position. What’s really nice to see is this uptick in offensive usage for Montgomery, as he took 13 and 16 shots with 22% and 29% usage rates in these last two games, respectively. If you’re playing on DK, Montgomery is a nice mid-range forward if you don’t want to go with a stars and scrubs route.

CJ Walker - Oregon ($4,000 DK / $4,700 FD)

With Shakur Juiston still out for Oregon, CJ Walker will likely start his second consecutive game - making him one of the better values on this slate, especially on DK where they haven’t adjusted his salary just yet. The 6-foot-8 freshman had already been getting 20-25 minutes off the bench this season before he moved into the starting rotation last game vs. Hawaii. In that start, Walker scored 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field and put up 24.5 DK points in 22 minutes. Oregon won that game by 25 points and the starters weren’t needed much in the second half - hence the lower playing time than usual for Walker. Against Michigan today, we should expect Walker to play much more as his length will be needed on defense.
