Mid laners from around the world clash on the first day of MSI, but by examining the relative strength of individual regional leagues- alongside their roles within their respective teams- we can find the best scorers in their international match-ups on Thursday.

PrizePicks Prop Selections:

Detonation FocusMe v Infinity Esports

Aria (DFM) - Projected Fantasy Score: 10.5 - OVER

For someone who is comfortable with the minor leagues in East Asia, there is an uncomfortable reality and a clear hierarchy: the native players are typically the underperformers on the team, and fill roster spots due to import rules restricting rosters from flooding the league with the best talent their little money can buy. Most teams only have 2 imported players from other leagues, and in much of East Asia, Koreans players are much desired due to their native server being highly competitive relative to the lower populations South East Asia or Japanese servers. Enter: Aria, the latest Korean import to Japan, he has dominated the domestic Japanese LJL league and has burst onto the international stage with Detonation FocusMe. Across the rift is Cody, a respectable player who is unfortunately locked in the less competitive LAN and North American servers.

PSG Talon v MAD Lions

Maple (PSG) - Projected Fantasy Score: 8.5 - OVER

PSG Talon absolutely curb stomped through the PCS, and while the substitution of ADC Unified for Doggo makes me uneasy, I think Maple should be able to further show his strength through the middle lane- nothing against Humanoid, but if his performance regresses only slightly back to his regular season for, I can easily see PSG running away with this game. Maple throughout nearly every single game domestically scored higher than the 8.5 Fantasy Points projected for his match-up against MAD Lions, and PSG as a unit only dropped a single game near the beginning of the season before buckling down and steamrolling the league. I think Maple, irrespective of whether PSG win or lose versus MAD, will easily crush the 8.5 mark expected of him in this match-up.

Pentanet GG v Unicorns of Love

Chazz (PGG) - Projected Fantasy Score: 8.5 - UNDER

While I respect Chazz as a mid laner, and thought he was admirable in the OPL last year, I think that the departure of the region’s better mid laners: Getback, Haeri, and Claire since swapping to top lane, has since lowered the level of his competition and allowed him to get away with bad habits which will be exploited by Unicorns of Love, especially with a powerful mid laner like Nomanz who is pretty much considered LEC caliber by most people. Chazz will also be coming off a crushing game against Royal Never Give Up whereas the Unicorns’ only game on Thursday is against the Australian representative; I have Mother Russia taking this game off PGG and Chazz not being able to have a significant impact on the map unlike Nomanz with the stronger jungler in AHaHaCiK.
