Welcome to the fantasy hockey waiver wire report! As usual, every week, the weekly waiver wire report will help you target some players that you should be adding, or monitoring, on the waiver wire. You’ll want to check back through the week to see if players are added. The fantasy hockey season is a long one, but staying on top of the waiver wire will most certainly help keep your team competitive. Let’s see who we should be targeting this week.
Eric Staal - Montreal Canadiens - Center
I have no idea what Eric Staal is going to bring to the team, or where he’s going to play, but at this point in the season, if you’re desperate for help, he’s 16% on Yahoo! and Montreal should give him every opportunity to succeed. The Habs have a bunch of talented wingers, so Staal could easily be a point-per-game player down the stretch. He’s expected to make his debut on Monday against the Edmonton Oilers.
Juuse Saros - Nashville Predators - Goalie
It’s wild that we are at this point in the season and Juuse Saros is only 67% owned in Yahoo! leagues. He should be 100% owned based on how he’s played over the last two weeks, but apparently everyone has switched their attention to fantasy baseball. Saros has been elite over the last two weeks, and the Predators now have something to play for. He has a 2.27 GAA and a .928 SV%, so why he’s available on the waiver wire is a mystery to me.
Jesper Fast - Carolina Hurricanes - Winger
I don’t know how this has happened, but Jesper Fast has found his way onto the top line with Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov. I don’t know how long that experiment is going to last, but if it sticks for at least this week, that gives Fast some value for fantasy owners who need some bodies in their lineups. He’s not going to destroy the league over the next week, but he’s seeing more ice time, and he’s playing with two of the team’s best players. He’s a short-term solution that could work out nicely.
Jared McCann - Pittsburgh Penguins - Center
Over the last five games, Jared McCann has six points and 16 shots on goals. That’s not bad for a player who isn’t seeing very much ice time five-on-five,but he is playing on the top power play unit, so that does boost his value.. The Penguins need their depth lines to contribute, and McCann is doing his part. Pittsburgh plays the rangers twice this week, followed by a two game set with the Devils. I like the 24-year-old a lot this week and I expect him to produce for fantasy owners.
Jack Roslovic - Columbus Blue Jackets - Center
I have no idea what John Tortorella was thinking by making Jack Roslovic a healthy scratch on Saturday, and playing him on the fourth line on Sunday. He’s been the best centerman since coming over to the team, and while his production has dipped a bit of late, it wasn’t fair to sit him for one game. Roslovic is 13% owned on Yahoo!, and I get why some fantasy owners may want to stay away from him. That being said, he’s the best centerman on the team, and that’s not changing anytime soon. We will have to live with Tortorella’s boneheaded decision, but if he can keep his best center in the lineup down the stretch, that would be much appreciated.
