Below are game breakdowns for Sunday’s three-game DFS NHL slate followed by example lineups. Please note that the pivots are meant to be more GPP specific plays.

Tampa Bay @ Carolina

This game is damn near even money with the gap being lower than you might think because the lesser Carolina team is the home team. Both teams also have the middle two matchup ratings of the six teams on this slate per my own matchup stat, so neither team is a must-play but neither should you avoid the game out of hand. Both teams played last night, so neither team is gaining much of an advantage in that respect.

We’re not really looking to stack either of these teams, so we’re looking for value we can use as one-offs in our lineups. From Carolina, Nino Niederreiter sticks out as a value on DK where his salary is 8.6-percent of the cap compared to 10.2-percent of the cap on FD. Nino plays on the top line and top PP unit which obviously gives him upside. But that’s even more true at home where the Canes used the top line against the opposing bottom six in their home opener. Hopefully the Canes will continue to put their top line in a position to be dangerous offensively.

With Carolina expected to use their top line against Tampa’s bottom six, that means one of Tampa’s top six lines is going to match up with one of the bottom six lines from Carolina. Carolina won’t leave Tampa’s lethal top line to their bottom six, so that means the second line will get that good matchup. Anthony Cirelli centers that line with Ondrej Palat and Alex Killorn on his wings. Cirelli doesn’t see PP work, but his wingers do, and Killorn is the better value of those wingers. If you want some exposure to the top line, defenseman Victor Hedman could be a way to get it, and he’s priced reasonably on DK. All that said, no one is going to blame you for using TB1.

If you’re looking for a punt play at wing, Ryan Dzingel is a salary relief option on either site.

Winnipeg @ New York

The Islanders are the only home favorite of the slate, and they have the highest implied goal total per Vegas, so they’re a team to lean heavily on tonight. The Jets don’t have any matchups to avoid, so they’re top producers are in play. Mathew Barzal and Anders Lee play together on the top line and on the power play together and are an excellent mini-stack. Jordan Eberle plays on the top line with them but is overpriced and plays on a separate power play unit. Defenseman Nick Leddy could be paired with Barzal/Lee as his pair played the most with that line at even strength in their opener, and he plays on the PP with them.

The Jets aren’t overly appealing as a road dog, but there are some values from the team on FD. Nikolaj Ehlers is playing up on the top line but is under 5K on FD and will take up less than nine percent of the cap compared to 11.8-percent of the DK cap. Defenseman Neal Pionk plays on the second PP unit along with Ehlers and is only $3,700 on FD. If you were using those Jets in an FD lineup, you could get contrarian and pair them with their goalie, Laurent Brossoit. Brossoit is nice and cheap on FD and had a .925 SV% in 21 games last season.

If you’re looking for a punt value play at center, Casey Cizikas is a salary relief option on either site.

Dallas @ Detroit

Dallas has the top matchup of the slate per my own matchup stat. The Stars played yesterday, but the Wings did as well. Dallas has the better of the backup goalies, so they’re far more appealing today. Detroit has a solid defensive top line that will likely take on Dallas’ top line, so the second line is the play from the Stars. That’s Roope Hintz centering Joe Pavelski and Alexander Radulov. Pavelski gets you some exposure to the top line playing on the top PP unit, and Radulov is a nice value on both sites but particularly on FD.

Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn are priced better on DK than FD, so that would be the site to stack that pair if you’re so inclined. Radek Faksa will get the chance to center that pair, and he’s a very nice value on FD. On the blue line, Esa Lindell is a fantastic value on DK at only $3,100. Lindell plays on the second PP unit and skates with John Klingberg at even strength.

Detroit’s top line pair of Dylan Larkin and Anthony Mantha are both noticeably underpriced on DK. The third member of that line is Tyler Bertuzzi, who is priced reasonably on DK but not as an obvious value. That entire line stays together on the top PP unit, so they’re an option for a stack on DK. Mike Green plays on the second PP unit so he’s not necessarily someone to stack with the top line (that would be Dennis Cholowski), but Green is worth mentioning because he is priced very well on both sites.

Despite liking quite a few skaters in this game, the goalies also have some appeal. The Red Wings allowed a ton of shots on goal last season, so goaltender Jonathan Bernier has upside if he happens to stop a good percentage of the likely hefty amount of rubber that will come his way. He’s very, very cheap on both sites. His opponent is Anton Khudobin, and he has a decent chance of picking up a W with the Stars being one of the two favorites at -130. He is reasonably priced on both sites.
