Welington Castillo Headshot

Castillo was scratched from Saturday's lineup with a sore neck, Rich Dubroff of PressBoxonline.com reports.

Castillo reportedly slept wrong and will take day off to recover. The veteran catcher smashed 14 home runs with the Diamondbacks last season and will take over the role left by Matt Wieters in Baltimore. He's still expected to play for the Dominican Republic in next month's World Baseball Classic.

LeBron James Headshot

James is listed as questionable for Saturday's game against the Bulls due to an illness, Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com reports.

The severity of the illness is unknown at this time, and it's likely that a decision on James' status won't be made until later in the evening. In the event that James, who recorded an 18-point, 15-assist, 13-rebound triple-double Thursday against New York, doesn't play, Kyrie Irving would handle more of the playmaking duties, while Derrick Williams and Richard Jefferson would be in line for increased minutes.

Seth Helgeson Headshot

Helgeson cleared waivers Saturday, but the Devils didn't immediately send him to AHL Albany, Andrew Gross of The Record reports.

The team's hesitancy to send Helgeson directly to its minor-league affiliate could signal that a trade is in the works. A brawny blueliner listed at 6-foot-4 and 214 pounds, it's conceivable that the 26-year-old ends up in a packaged trade since he qualifies as a rental player with unrestricted free-agent status this summer. However, if he stays put in the Devils system, something has to give as the team currently has a lopsided roster composition comprised of eight healthy defensemen and the bare minimum up front.
1:04 pm (EST)
Michael Bourn Headshot

Bourn broke his right ring finger playing football on Friday and will be out four weeks, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

It's devastating news for Bourn, who signed a minor league contract with the Orioles this offseason and was competing for a reserve outfield role on the roster. The 34-year-old was traded to Baltimore by Arizona last August and ended the year hitting .264 with 38 RBI and 15 stolen bases in 113 games. Bourn's injury opens the door for Craig Gentry or Joey Rickard to earn more outfield playing time as spring camp continues.
1:00 pm (EST)
Eduardo Rodriguez Headshot

Rodriguez showed no hesitation in his delivery while throwing his first live batting practice Saturday, Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald reports.

Rodriguez will make his spring training debut Thursday as he returns from an offseason knee injury. The 24-year-old has been held out from certain drills thus far in camp, but it appears all systems are go at this point. More importantly, pitching coach Carl Willis said that Rodriguez is ahead of both Drew Pomeranz and Steven Wright for the final two spots in the rotation, a strong indication that he'll be a player to monitor this spring.
12:50 pm (EST)
Eddie Lack Headshot

Lack will start between the pipes in Sunday's home game against the Flames.

Lack was unbeatable in his last start, turning aside all 34 shots he faced en route to an impressive 3-0 shutout victory over the Senators on Friday. The 29-year-old backstop will look to stay sharp in a matchup with a Flames team that's 17-12-4 on the road this season.
12:49 pm (EST)
Brock McGinn Headshot

McGinn (undisclosed) missed Saturday's practice and he will not play in Sunday's home game against the Flames.

Hurricanes coach Bill Peters did not disclose the reason for McGinn's upcoming absence, but it's not as if the winger had been in a prime fantasy position anyway; he's averaged a mere 12:33 of ice time per contest, with that bottom-six role yielding a mere 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in 41 games. Derek Ryan should sub in at left wing.
12:46 pm (EST)
Thomas Greiss Headshot

Greiss will start in goal Saturday night, with the Blue Jackets welcoming the Islanders to Nationwide Arena.

Isles coach Doug Weight is giving the No. 1 backstop a breather approximately once every four games. Greiss will be in pursuit of his third straight road win, having already downed the Red Wings to complement a shutout at the expense of the Canadiens earlier in the week. Facing the Blue Jackets is a daunting task given that they are averaging 3.26 goals per game at home, but Greiss has proven that he can stand tall in high-pressure situations and that makes him a decent flier in most fantasy formats Saturday.
12:35 pm (EST)
Taylor Motter Headshot

Motter is dealing with a sore back and won't play for a couple of days, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

Despite the hindrance, Motter is still hitting and working on the field, so it doesn't seem to be a major concern. The 27-year-old is competing for a utility role on the Seattle roster after being acquired in a trade from the Rays this offseason. Motter, who hit just .188 in 34 games last year, likely needs to impress in spring games to earn the spot over veteran incumbent Shawn O'Malley.
12:35 pm (EST)
Tommy La Stella Headshot

La Stella is dealing with left hamstring tightness and running under supervision, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.

It doesn't appear to be anything very serious at this point, but La Stella may be limited in workouts for a few days. The 28-year-old infielder hit .270/.357/.405 for the Cubs last season and is expected to compete for a bench role this coming season. Consider him day-to-day going forward.
