Athletics placed Sean Doolittle (shoulder strain) on the 15-day disabled list.

Doolittle was having a strong season in the eighth inning role for the lackluster A's before this injury. His 2.93 ERA and 1.04 WHIP will be sorely missed as they don't have much in reserves down on the farm. Daniel Coulombe got called up to fill his roster spot while he's on the shelf but fantasy owners are surely hoping the setup man gets back on the mound sooner rather than later.

Athletics recalled Andrew Triggs from Triple-A Nashville.

Triggs is back up with the big club as his roller coaster season continues. He is better than the departing Zach Neal but only slightly better. In his 21 major league innings this season he owns a 7.29 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP. Low-leverage middle relief is where he'll continue to work for the A's.

Athletics optioned Zach Neal to Triple-A Nashville.

His numbers in the time with Oakland are just not good enough to stick around in the majors. An 8.04 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in relief is definitely not close to where he should be. There is a lot of season left for him to come back up with Oakland but it might be sometime while he works on his stuff with the Sounds.

Athletics recalled Daniel Coulombe from Triple-A Nashville.

Sean Doolittle going on the DL opened the door for Coulombe to return back to the Oakland pen. He has made 10 appearance for the yellow and green in 2016 pitching a total of 13 2/3 innings with a 4.61 ERA. He will be used in middle relief once again and shouldn't warrant any attention on the wires as he is a non-factor in fantasy terms.

Michael Pineda allowed one run on two hits while walking three and striking out 12 over six innings against the Rangers on Thursday.

After giving up a leadoff home run, Pineda allowed just one hit the remainder of the game and shut the Rangers down. The 12 K’s Pineda notched on Thursday was his season-high. He’s been fantastic at missing bats of late, as he’s notched 37 strikeouts in his last four outings, a span of 23.1 innings. Pineda has seemingly found himself and has become very relevant in all things fantasy.

Jonathan Papelbon will make a rehab appearance on Friday and Saturday.

He was able to pitch in a 30-pitch simulated game on Wednesday without issue which is what set the stage for this next move for him to pitch in back-to-back games at Double-A Harrisburg. He hasn't appeared for the Nats since June 14th with the strained intercostal muscle and is eligible at this point. If all goes well at Harrisburg, he could be back for the last game of Reds series on Sunday afternoon. Shawn Kelley has been solid as his replacement but the job is Papelbon's when he returns.

DiDi Gregorius went 1-for-3 with a solo home run (9) against the Rangers on Thursday.

Wednesday’s hero was back at it again on Thursday as he belted his ninth homer of the season. Gregorius is turning into an offensive star as he hit over .330 for the month of June to raise his average to .290. Gregorius is on pace to hit 17 homers and drive in 75 runs, both would be career-highs. He could end up sneaking into the all-star game and even if he doesn’t, he should be in play everyday in fantasy. He’s a top-10 player at his position.

Aroldis Chapman threw a scoreless ninth inning on one hit while striking out one to pick up the win against the Rangers on Thursday.

Chapman notched the win on Thursday after throwing a scoreless ninth inning. Chapman has been very good for the Yankees this year and has been the center of attention in terms of trade talks. If and when Chapman is dealt, he’ll remain a closer for whatever team he’s a part of. He is 2-0 and has converted 15-of-16 save opportunities this season.

Aledmys Diaz is not in the Cardinals starting lineup on Thursday.

A foul ball to the face on Monday has cost him each of the last three games with an eye injury. That is the case again on Thursday as Greg Garcia will take over at short stop with the start and batting ninth. St. Louis is hopeful that he can return in the next few games.

Shin-Soo Choo went 1-for-4 with a solo home run (4) against the Yankees on Thursday.

Choo got Thursday’s scoring off with a bang, leading off the game with a home run. Since returning from the disabled list, Choo has been excellent at the top of the Rangers lineup. He’s reached base 35 times in 22 games, which is good for a .406 on-base percentage. That’s been Choo’s calling card his whole career and what helped him get the lucrative contract he got. He also hits for power and swipes some bags so he’s a very solid fantasy option in all formats.
