Running Backs

It looks as if Ryan Mathews is finally the safe, solid play that San Diego was hoping for when drafting him in the first round. Darren Sproles continues to be Drew Brees' safety valve, with Pierre Thomas trying to expand his role. Trent Richardson is out to prove he is an every down back and deserves to be mentioned along with the Fosters, Rices and McCoys of the NFL. Ahmad Bradshaw is healthy again and was running (and catching the ball) with abandon. Willis McGahee continues to expand his role into the passing game, certainly due to the presence of Peyton Manning. In Atlanta, Michael Turner is also getting more looks, but also sharing time. Javon Ringer showed up in the box score, could he be on the verge of supplanting Chris Johnson? William Powell is now the man in Arizona with both Beanie Wells and Ryan Williams down for the count. Rashard Mendenhall sure bounced back strong, he will make all the difference in the Pittsburgh offense.

Tight Ends

Despite insisting this is his final season, Tony Gonzalez again posting monster numbers. Jacob Tamme a favorite of Peyton's over the weekend, they share a comfort level from last season in Indianapolis. The Colts new tight end, rookie Coby Fleener has shown some inconsistencies that many rookies do, but was solid on Sunday. Jared Cook had been battling injury, but appears healthy now and headed towards the breakout season many expected him to have. Marcedes Lewis was a Pro Bowl tight end with double digit scores in 2010, then disappeared last season. Lewis looks to be having a bounce back season. Christian Ponder and Kyle Rudolph have developed great chemistry with the Vikings, especially in the red zone. Vernon Davis and Antonio Gates are Pro Bowl talents and are arguably remain the best in their respective conferences. Dennis Pitta started the season like gangbusters, but has disappointed greatly in recent weeks. Greg Olsen had a quiet week, but will struggle along with Cam Newton. Jimmy Graham was targeted only a pair of times on Sunday, certainly not the norm and no reason for alarm.
