Kevin Pillar (R) Headshot

Pillar is not in the lineup against the Rays on Thursday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Pillar will receive a standard day off for the first time since Aug. 4 as Ezequiel Carrera draws the start in center. Since the All-Star break, Pillar is hitting just .219/.276/.324 with two home runs and eight RBI.

Nori Aoki (L) Headshot

Aoki (illness) is batting atop of the order and playing in right field for Thursday's series finale against Tampa Bay, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Aoki has been battling an illness for the better part of the last week, but he's set to make his first start since Aug. 9 for Thursday's contest. Since July 25, Aoki has played in just nine of 21 possible games, and is hitting .143/.174/.286 during that span.
1:13 pm (EST)
Tyler Lyons (L) Headshot

Lyons pitched the eighth inning against the Red Sox on Wednesday, allowing one walk while striking out one in a scoreless frame.

He successfully worked around a leadoff walk to earn his 10th hold before Trevor Rosenthal and Zach Duke combined to squander the lead in the ninth. Rosenthal is reportedly dealing with renewed arm tightness and is set to be examined by the medical staff, leaving the ninth-inning picture in St. Louis murky at the moment. Lyons doesn't throw hard, but he's been able to strike batters out at a 29.5 percent clip this season regardless. He could be in the mix for save chances if Rosenthal is forced to miss time.
1:11 pm (EST)
José Bautista (R) Headshot

Bautista is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rays, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Bautista retreats to the bench for the first time this month after starting in 15 straight games. During that span, the slugger is hitting just .186 at the plate, but he has added four home runs and eight RBI. In his place, Norichika Aoki gets the start in right while batting at the top of the order.
1:09 pm (EST)
Starling Marte (R) Headshot

Marte went 2-for-5 with his 10th stolen base Wednesday against the Brewers.

He's slashing .255/.320/.300 in 121 plate appearances since returning from an 80-game suspension. In 26 games, Marte has stolen eight bases and scored 18 runs. His .304 BABIP in 2017 is well below a .355 career mark, indicating there's a reasonable chance his batting average moves up over the last six weeks. He's still looking for his first homer since April.
1:07 pm (EST)
Ryan Goins (L) Headshot

Goins (forearm) will not miss any time after exiting Wednesday's contest, remaining in the lineup for the series finale against Tampa Bay on Thursday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Goins will start at shortstop and bat eighth just a day after getting spiked in his left forearm while attempting to steal a base during the sixth inning of Wednesday's game. His X-rays didn't reveal any structural damage, and manager John Gibbons elects to keep Goins in the lineup for the divisional contest.
1:01 pm (EST)
Yasmany Tomás (R) Headshot

Tomas (groin) experienced a setback in his recovery and will visit a specialist in Philadelphia, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

The outfielder has been out since June 2, and this latest development probably will extend his return timetable farther down the road. Tomas is batting .241/.294/.464 with eight home runs and 32 RBI over 180 plate appearances in 2017.
