Newton suffered a rare injury during Monday night's game in Denver when he ruptured both of his patellar tendons on the same play. The surgery is just the first step in a long rehab process. He will spend the next several weeks in a wheel chair before progressing to crutches before the next steps in rehab can even be thought about. He is certainly done for the season, but there is a good chance that he could miss most if not all of next season as well.
Cotham had surgery to deal with a meniscus issue back in August but is now being added to the 40-man roster ahead of the league year coming to an end. Cotham was supposed to be a big piece in the Reds pen in 2016 but a 7.40 ERA saw an end to that hope pretty early on. Cotham's role is still up in the air but he will have spring training to prove his worth to Cincinnati management.
There was some lack of clarity as to what exactly the tight end has been dealing with but now the diagnosis is in. He has already missed the last two games and will now miss a third straight game for his second team of the 2016 season. ASJ is a non-factor even when healthy and that likely won't be for another few weeks.
