It’s the final week of August and the last waiver period before Major League teams expand to 40 man rosters and many more options for your fantasy team down the stretch. If your league allows minor league pickups, now is the time to take a chance and grab young talent you believe will get called up. We’ll address those projections in this week’s edition of the Farm Report, but Waiver Flavor will remains business as usual with suggested pickups from current 25 man rosters.
As we hit the All-Star break, many leagues also pass their trading deadline. When trading is no longer an option, free agency and waivers become even more important. "Real Life" trades also figure to play a major factor with veterans like Matt Garza (pictured) possibly on the move. Many times during the season, our weekly list has a nice piece or two, lacking depth... but this week is different. I feel there are a number of players featured in this week's edition of Waiver Flavor that can help your team in the short... and long term. I should note that three pitchers made an appearance this week, but were promptly sent back to the minors. Cleveland's Danny Salazar and Houston's Jarred Cosart had outstanding performances, while the pitcher with the best track record, Erasmo Ramirez of Seattle, was shelled. Depending on your particular league rules, I beleive each is worthy of "stashing".
Is it time to panic yet? We are still early enough in the campaign where players remain available that can possibly help you in the long term. This week we have a mixture of young, emerging talent mixed with veterans returning from the disabled list and the minors. There are long shots with upside and phenoms, either making their first appearance, or getting a second chance.
