Jake Marisnick Headshot

Jake Marisnick went 2-for-4 with a home run (2) and two runs scored against the Tigers on Friday.

Marisnick is currently filling in for Carlos Gomez who is day-to-day and Marisnick is doing a very solid job. Not only was he the only Astros player with more than one hit, but he also blasted a home run. Marisnick's time as a starter is coming to a close, but he's a solid fourth outfielder for the Astros going forward.

Jose Altuve Headshot

Jose Altuve went 1-for-4 with a home run (18) and two RBI against the Tigers on Friday.

Arguably the best player in baseball this season was back at it again on Friday as he crushed his 19th homer of the year. Altuve is having an MVP caliber year as he's the clear cut favorite in the American League right now. Just his slash line at .356/.421/.570 with a .991 OPS will tell you everything you need to know.

Collin McHugh Headshot

Collin McHugh allowed eight runs on 10 hits while striking out one over 1.2 innings against the Tigers on Friday.

McHugh got rocked early and often, as he couldn’t make it out of the second inning after allowing eight runs and 10 hits. It was by far McHugh’s worst start of the season and arguably his worst of his young career. McHugh’s ERA soared to 4.75 from 4.18 in just one start. McHugh let down a ton of fantasy owners on Friday and may not be able to regain their trust.

Matt Boyd Headshot

Matt Boyd allowed three runs on four hits while walking one and striking out six over five innings against the Astros on Friday.

Boyd had an average outing on Friday as he struck out six over five innings. Boyd has actually been pretty good as he’s allowed three runs or less over his last four outings. That said, he’s not worth much of anything in fantasy. Who knows how long this 25-year olds success will last or if he'll even stick in the rotation for much longer.

Tyler Collins Headshot

Tyler Collins went 2-for-4 with a triple, home run (3), three RBI and two runs scored against the Astros on Friday.

Collins blasted his third home run of the year and third homer of July on Friday in the Tigers blowout win. Since being recalled from the minors, Collins has been consistent at the dish hitting .276 in July. He’s nothing more than an average DFS play here and there.

Justin Upton Headshot

Justin Upton went 2-for-4 with a home run (12), three RBI and two runs scored against the Astros on Friday.

Upton has begun to turn it up a notch during the month of July as he belted his 12th homer of the year, fifth of the month on Friday. Upton now is hitting .275 in July with five home runs and 13 RBI. He’s been more and more productive as the season has worn on. He’s still a risky fantasy play at this juncture in the season.

James McCann Headshot

James McCann went 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit home run (7) against the Astros on Friday.

With the game well in hand, the Tigers took Victor Martinez out of the game and substituted James McCann. McCann hit a pinch-hit home run in Martinez’s place, the seventh of his season. McCann has underperformed mightily this year hitting just .203 on the year. He’s not worth a look in any fantasy format.

Jon Lester Headshot

Jon Lester threw six scoreless innings while allowing four hits, two walks and striking out seven against the Mariners on Friday.

Lester stymied the Mariners offense on Friday, shutting them out over six innings. Lester is seemingly getting back to where he was earlier this year as he’s now thrown two gems over his previous three starts. After Friday’s outing, the southpaw sits at home with a 2.95 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and a .221 BAA. Other than a poor two-week stretch, Lester has been fantastic for the Cubs all year long. His next matchup comes against Jose Fernandez and the Marlins. Lester has already faced the Marlins once this season, allowing just two runs over seven innings while striking out seven. He could be a plus DFS play next time he toes the slab.

Jason Heyward Headshot

Jason Heyward went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run (5) against the Mariners on Friday.

It’s been a long first season for Heyward in Chicago but he took a step in the right direction on Friday after belting a two-run bomb for his fifth homer of the year. Things haven’t gotten better over time and they haven’t gotten worse. He’s hitting just .214 with one home run and five RBI in July and .229 on the year. Heyward has been an extremely disappointing player in all fantasy leagues and he should have already been dropped a long time ago.

David Ross Headshot

David Ross went 2-for-4 with a home run (7) and two runs scored against the Mariners on Friday.

Jon Lester’s personal catcher provided the Cubs with some offense on Friday as he left the yard for the seventh time this season. Ross is nothing more than a backup these days and plays no more than twice a week if he’s lucky. He could end up reaching 10 home runs by seasons end and that will be his biggest milestone.
