According to early reports, Fernando Rodney is said to be the favorite to take over the closer role for the Padres heading into spring training.

Rodey was absolutely horrid for the Mariners in 2015, going 5-5 with 16 saves, six blown saves and a 5.68 ERA which lead to his removal from the role. Rodney was moved the Cubs where he then pitched lights out over 14 games, going 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA while striking out 15 over 12 innings. Rodney averaged 45 saves a season from 2012 to 2014 so he is certainly more than capable of being an elite closer again in 2016. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba
