Steven Matz Headshot

Steven Matz will have surgery on Tuesday to remove a bone spur in his pitching elbow.

Although surgery is never a good thing for a pitcher, at least he does not appear to require shoulder surgery as well. The recovery from the bone spur operation should be about three months, and if all goes well, the young SP will be ready to go once spring training opens in 2017. He is obviously done for 2016.

Jimmy Garoppolo Headshot

Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) will start Week 4 versus Buffalo.

Good news for the Patriots, as it was looking bleak on the QB front once Jacoby Brisset hurt his thumb in Week 3's game against the Texans. Tom Brady's suspension will be over after this week's game against the Bills, and then things can get back to normal for the Patriots, although the team has not missed a beat so far relying on their backup QBs. Just goes to reinforce the idea that Bill Belichick is a great coach, no matter what you think of his tactics and personality.

Terrance West Headshot

Terrance West may start for Baltimore in Week 4.

West was certainly the more productive RB in Week 3, getting nearly half the carries against the Jaguars in the 19-17 win. He also sees some targets from out of the backfield, but his starting role may be in jeopardy once rookie Kenneth Dixon is ready to join the backfield in Baltimore.

Andrew McCutchen Headshot

Andrew McCutchen is out of the lineup on Saturday.

The team is giving their star centerfielder a day off, and going with Gregory Polanco in center, flanked by Adam Frazier in left and Josh Bell in right. Polanco is hitting cleanup, while Frazier and Bell are hitting in the lead off and second slot respectively. McCutchen has been in a mini-slump, going just 2-for-16 over the last five games, so with the Pirates out of contention, it is a good chance to give the man a rest.

Dirk Nowitzki Headshot

Dirk Nowitzki, Andrew Bogut, Derron Williams, Devin Harris, and Wesley Matthews are not traveling with the team to the first preseason game. They will instead work out at the team facility in Dallas.

After hearing this then it's obvious that the Mavs have their own plan regarding their starting lineup during these preseason games. As injuries have plagued most of the guys in their starting lineup over the past year then it's not a bad idea to keep them training for a while longer than playing in games. Look for future updates to see how Dallas will continue to manage their starting lineup.

Chase Farris Headshot

G Chase Farris, G Jake Bernstein, C Robert Kugler, and TE Greg Scruggs all had workouts with New England on Friday.

Chase Farris is one of many to try out for New England this Friday. The Pats must be looking to add some depth to the guard, center, and tight-end positon. Farris recently was picked by the Lions but ended up getting cut.

Sterling Bailey Headshot

Jets and Browns both worked out DE Sterling Bailey earlier this week.

Sterling Bailey looks to get back onto another NFL team after being cut by the Colts in September.
