Orioles are trying hard to land Andrew Cashner by the trade deadline.
The Orioles still aren’t considered the favorites despite their aggressive approach. The Marlins and Rangers are also involved and have a deeper farm system that could be more attractive for the Padres. Cashner has pitched well in his last three starts as he has allowed a total of five runs and has accumulated 23 strikeouts. On the season, the right-hander has a 4.76 ERA and 1.39 WHIP. It will obviously be a boost for the Orioles rotation, but moving to the American League East would hurt Cashner’s fantasy value for the remainder of the season.
Lions have officially signed Anquan Boldin to a one-year contract.
Boldin is a proven wide receiver and will help the Lions receiving corps after the loss of Calvin Johnson. The 35-year-old still managed to haul in 69 passes in 2015 for an atrocious 49ers offense and eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards in the previous two seasons. The Lions love to throw the football around so there is value in having Boldin on fantasy rosters even if he isn’t the number one option. Boldin should be able to help move the chains for the Lions and becomes a nice middle to late round option for fantasy owners.
Damian Copeland has been released by Detroit.
Copeland was trying to make the roster as wide receiver depth, but will now have to latch on to another team for that to happen. Copeland has bounced around the league in his three years and it appears the writing is on the wall for his NFL future.
