2016 RECAP

Record: 68 - 93

Last Season’s Fantasy Highlights

By averaging seven frames over 33 starts, Julio Teheran can now be counted on to throw the elevated total of innings requisite for a fantasy ace. With 47 saves, Craig Kimbrel saved over 40 games for the fourth straight campaign. Justin Upton topped 100 RBI for the first time in his career, finishing with 102.

What Has Changed?

The biggest change in Atlanta is the team’s mentality as it is obvious the plan is to sacrifice short-term success in an effort to be ready to compete in 2017 when they will be moving into a new stadium. As such, Jason Heyward, Justin Upton and Evan Gattis will all be wearing a new uniform leaving Freddie Freeman as the only veteran run producer and he’s coming off a down year, rendering doubt the 30 home run potential may never manifest itself.

What to Expect:

Fantasy-wise, things could be ugly, at least from an offensive perspective. This hurts Freeman the most as his runs and RBI will take a hit, regardless if his power stroke emerges. Also affected are Teheran, Alex Wood and newcomer Shelby Miller as their potential for wins might be diminished. And while lesser teams still generate save opportunities, Kimbrel’s perch atop the closer rankings is in jeopardy as is his streak of 40-save seasons.

This Year’s Surprise:

It may not be opening day but at some point in 2015 Jose Peraza should be handed the second base job which he should run away with, literally. If he can get on base, Peraza has the goods to challenge the league leaders in steals and that includes Billy Hamilton and Dee Gordon.
