All-Star weekend in Houston has wrapped up and was generally panned by observers. What did you think? Did you watch? I found it entertaining for the most part, but found the musical entertainment leaving much to be desired. I would like to see the slam dunk and three point contest get more high profile entrants, perhaps using charity donations as the draw. Lebron in the slam dunk? JJ Reddick in the three point? Just food for thought. We wrap up our mid-season reviews with the Southwest Division of the Western Conference.
The Memphis Grizzlies finally cleared the salary they had been seeking, trading Rudy Gay to the Toronto Raptors. Gay, along with center Hamed Haddadi heads north of the border to Toronto, with the Raptors sending big man Ed Davis and point guard Jose Calderon to Memphis. But there's more, the Grizzlies had no interest in taking on Calderon's massive salary, shipping him to Detroit. The Pistons send forwards Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye to complete the deal.

The Memphis Grizzlies continue to ascend and may be poised to take over the Division with Marc Gasol and Rudy Gay among the best in the West at their positions. O.J. Mayo is finally showing his potential, but can Dallas stay competitive until Dirk Nowitzki returns? Wow, that's all I can say about Houston and new leading man James Harden. Lastly, New Orleans rebuilds around Anthony Davis but the process has a long way to go.

A look at post season chances, long term potential and upgrades possible in this summer's NBA draft. We continue in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference with the Memphis Grizzlies.
