Fantasy Baseball Prospect Report: High-A Highlights
David Kerr

Danny Espinosa went 2-for-4 with two home runs (15) and seven RBI on Thursday night against the Reds.

With another two home runs, Espinosa has raised his total to 15 on the season, while his staggering seven RBI on the night give him 41 for the season. Sure he’s boasting just a .235 average, but his .338 OBP is proving his value to the lineup and is showing up in his runs scored column. He’s definitely someone worth owning, while there is hope that he can turn this multi home run effort into a power surge of sorts.

Ryan Zimmerman went 2-for-4 with a home run (11), three RBI, and three runs scored on Thursday night against the Reds.

There is really no way around it… By his standards, this has been an awful season for Ryan Zimmerman. With an OBP of just .287 – a number that fantasy owners and Nationals fans alike have come to associate with his batting average – Zimmerman appears to be less than half of the player that he used to be. With already a large sample size this season, fantasy owners can look past his home run and 2-for-4 night. His moment of fantasy relevancy appears to have passed.

Brandon Finnegan went 2 1/3 innings, allowed eight runs on five hits and five walks, while he struck out two on Thursday night against the Nationals.

The young left-hander was tagged for eight runs on Thursday night, as he understandable was unable to go past 2 1/3 innings against the Nationals. The loss was his seventh of the season and third straight, so when considering that and his ever-rising 4.48 ERA, he may be someone to consider dropping going forward.

Gio Gonzalez went six innings, allowed four runs on six hits and four walks, while he struck out nine in a win over the Reds on Thursday night.

The veteran lefty has been rather off with his command of late, specifically over his last three outings, however on Thursday night he did manage to improve in terms of striking out batters. He still failed to keep the opposition under three runs, but fantasy owners will still take four earned runs over six innings over the six and five over the three and 5 1/3 that he allowed in his previous two starts. If you feel so compelled to keep Gonzalez, his strikeout numbers are solid enough to warrant the move, but unless he can get his ERA under control soon, he will become a drop candidate.

Andre Drummond is expected to quickly agree to terms on a new deal with the Pistons.

This comes as no surprise. Drummond really broke out during the 2015-16 season and even received his first All-Star Game nod. The Pistons are looking to lock him down for several years and he will be the cornerstone of the franchise going forward.

Wizards are working out a new deal for Bradley Beal, which should be ready early Friday morning.

This has long been expected and it looks as though Beal will be staying put. The terms of the deal will likely be announced on Friday morning.

Restricted free agent Dion Waiters is "gaining significant traction" from the Kings.

Waiters is one of the more overrated players in the game, so naturally Sacramento would be a likely landing spot. Rajon Rondo is all but gone from the Kings and Waiters could have an opportunity to start if he signs with the team. The other team interested in Waiters' services is the 76ers. Go figure.

Luol Deng's agent is expecting a call from the Timberwolves on Friday morning.

There's a very good chance that Deng will sign with Minnesota given his connection to Tom Thibodeau. Deng doesn't have the same legs under him as he did in his prime, but still managed to average 32.4 minutes in 74 games.
