While there are players emerging that can help you down the home stretch, the lack of activity at the trade deadline has certainly lessened the fantasy impact. With approximately seven weeks remaining in the regular season, the time to make a move is now. I was mired in last place in rebounding in my league, so I moved several big men for perimeter players to attempt to gain points in assists, three pointers and steals. Don't force moves or make them just to do it, but in order for transactions to have time to take effect, do them now.
Are you building for next year? Is your NBA fantasy season on the rocks? The NBA has released rosters for the 2013 BBVA Rising Stars Challenge game and it would be a great start in planning your franchise's future. Friday night, February 15th in Houston, nine team rosters of first and second year players (drafted by NBA assistant coaches) will kick off All-Star weekend. Charles Barkley and Shaquille O'Neal will again serve as GM's and will draft live on TNT a week from tonight (Thu Feb 7th).
We've checked in on big men around the Association, lets move on to swing men. What are swing men you may be asking? Swing men are players that qualify at shooting guard, small forward, combo forward or in some cases, guard/forward. Swing men are typically your best all-around players who almost always contribute in the scoring category. Swing men are also those you see moved in and out of rosters the most. Lets take a look at those swing men that are beginning to populate rosters and those that have been, or should be on the chopping block. As a reminder, always check your own league for position eligibility.
As we play out the final days of the 2011-'12 NBA regular season, we take a look at each franchise. Who emerged, what went wrong, what lies ahead. A look at post season chances, long term potential and upgrades possible in this summer's NBA draft. We continue in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference with the San Antonio Spurs.
I really like the changes that the NBA has made involving All-Star weekend. Specifically, mixing the rookies and sophomores in what was the Rookie Challenge and dividing the teams up with a fantasy draft. Whenever I hear fantasy draft, I want in! In a coin flip, Shaquille O'Neal gets to go first, Charles Barkley gets two picks, then they alternate until their nine man rosters are filled. The real fantasy draft will take place a week from tonight at 7pm EST on TNT.
Last week we told you about changes in store for NBA All-Star weekend. Instead of the rookies taking on the sophomores in the "futures" game, the best 1st and 2nd year players will be split up. Taking a cue from the NHL, the NBA will draft the squads, with Shaquille O'Neal and Charles Barkley doing the honors. Does the NBA have the best All-Star game among major sports? MLB may still be the best, but what we do know is that the Pro Bowl remains horrible.
What is the future of the NBA? MLB has the futures game, football has various All-Star games, including Saturday's Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama. The Association features the Rookie Challenge, held during All-Star weekend. This is the 13th edition of the Rookie Challenge which historically has matched the league's top rookies against the best 2nd year players. Just in case you were wondering, the sophomore's have won eight times, but the rookie's have won the last two. Washington's John Wall was the MVP of last year's 148-140 shootout.
With the lockout shortened NBA season almost ready to kick off, the biggest question marks around the league are the rookies. With no training camp and just two preseason games to get acclimated to the NBA, this season's rookies will have a far tougher time getting game ready. Throw in the fact that this year's draft class featured a record amount of international players whose success is almost impossible to predict and you have yourself one of the toughest fantasy drafts you can encounter. Luckily, we have compiled the 15 top game-ready rookies you should definitely look at in your draft.
