As we play out the final weeks of the 2011-'12 NBA season, we take a look at each franchise. Who emerged, what went wrong, what lies ahead. A look at post season chances, long term potential and upgrades possible in this summer's NBA draft. We continue in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Time to take a trip across the Association in search of help for your fantasy roster. The regular season finale is right around the corner and time is running out to make a push. We will take a look at each position, providing a suggested list of players available through free agency or waivers that are available in more than 50% of Flea Flicker leagues. We begin with the point guard crop.
How you looking at guard? So many categories, hard to get 'em all covered with one player. I have always struggled addressing field goal percentage and three pointers. I have always leaned towards the point guard types, obviously contributing more assists and in many cases more likely to pickup steals. Very general observation, but a guide nonetheless. So what's available in free agency or on the waivers in your league? We have taken a look and provide you some options, based on players that are available in more than 50% of Flea Flicker fantasy basketball leagues.
As we roll towards February and the All-Star break, NBA clubs are looking to make adjustments. Most clubs still have hope of making the post season, while a few may already be tinkering with the future in mind. A one time NBA All-Star may finally be emerging from free agency and trade rumors are rampant. Those looking for a center find one on the market after already being traded once this season.
The NBA world is buzzing over last night’s preseason battle of Los Angeles between the Lakers and the Clippers. Chris Paul didn’t disappoint in his Clippers debut with 17 points, nine assists and seven rebounds in the 114-95 win over the Lakers. Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 22 points before injuring the wrist on his shooting hand. The injury has been determined to be minor.
The New York Knicks made the first big splash of free agency by signing center Tyson Chandler. Chandler is the defensive presence the Knicks need to support the offensive minded front court studs Amare Stoudamire and Carmelo Anthony. Chandler wasn't cheap, so the Knicks had to release point guard Chauncey Billups, further weakening an already questionable backcourt. New York looks to have filled that void by coming to terms with free agent guard Baron Davis.
In many cases, its akin to shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic. We are seeing that some teams trash is another teams treasure. Clubs continue to use the amnesty clause to rid themselves of the un-wanted, with the same players welcomed by others through free agency. With most of the premiere players already re-settled, transactions from here to opening day are mostly role players as teams round out their rotations.
Camps are now open across the country with the race to fill opening day rosters underway. With some teams opening practice with as few as seven players under contract, lots of player movement coming before Christmas. The major action of the day, the Lakers pulling out of the Chris Paul sweepstakes while the hunt for Dwiight Howard gets underway. 14 days until Christmas.... and opening day!
The season is just a few days old, but already there is news all over the NBA. Whether it is stars potentially on the move, injury concerns or former number one picks making their debut, there is already a lot of shakeup in the Association.
