Pittsburgh needs another arm in the pen with Ryan Vogelsong on shelf after getting hit in the face with a pitch on Tuesday and Schugel is their man, once again. However that doesn't mean he is a quality arm as his 4.96 ERA and 1.35 WHIP show in the 16 1/3 innings he pitched for the Pirates earlier in the year. He does however have more strikeouts than innings pitched which helps with getting out of the jams he seems to get in frequently while on the mound.
This shouldn't come as a shock to anyone after he took a 92 MPH fastball off of his face in Monday's game while trying to bunt in the second inning. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he stayed overnight Tuesday night. According to his wife, he is stable and will be okay but will obviously be out for a while. Don't expect him to return once the 15 days are up either as this is a longer term injury than that.
