Phil Gosselin (R) Headshot

Gosselin was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday.

He was claimed by the Rangers a week ago, and has played just four games for Round Rock. Gosselin has a career .272/.320/.368 slash line with six home runs and seven steals in 543 plate appearances. He should serve as a utility player off the bench. Carlos Gomez (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day DL as a corresponding move.

Hunter Renfroe (R) Headshot

Renfroe was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Saturday.

For the most part, Renfroe has struggled at the plate this season; hitting 20 homers but posting a .230 batting average and striking out an unsightly 28.7 percent of the time, essentially making him a one-category asset. He'll head back to the minors for the time being to straighten himself out and hopefully cut down on his strikeouts, but he should be back with the Padres when rosters expand in September. Jabari Blash was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding roster move, and he will likely take over starting duties in right field while Renfroe is in the minors.

Carlos Gómez (R) Headshot

Gomez (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day DL on Saturday.

He was set to miss his sixth straight game with a shoulder cyst, so the Rangers finally bit the bullet and made a roster move. Gomez's cyst was removed from his right shoulder, and it would seem that he should be able to return on or shortly after the minimum 10-day absence. The DL stint is retroactive to Aug. 16. Phil Gosselin was recalled as a corresponding move.

Nomar Mazara (L) Headshot

Mazara (knee) is getting the start at DH and hitting fifth Saturday against the White Sox.

The knee that he tweaked in Friday's game is probably still a slight issue, as he has only logged five games at DH this season, but at least he's healthy enough for his hot bat to be in the lineup against Derek Holland. Granted, it's not a great matchup for Mazara, who has a .207/.278/.268 slash line against lefties this season.
4:22 pm (EST)
Edward Paredes (L) Headshot

Paredes was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday, Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Paredes will take the place of Yu Darvish (back) on the roster, and he should offer an extra arm out of the bullpen for the Dodgers until they need to swap him out for Darvish's temporary replacement in the rotation. He'll get another shot with the big club after posting a 0.75 ERA and 21:6 K:BB over 12 innings with Oklahoma City.
4:16 pm (EST)
Carlos Gómez (R) Headshot

Gomez (shoulder) remains out of the lineup Saturday against the White Sox.

He will miss his sixth straight game with a cyst on his right shoulder, and at this point, the Rangers may be wishing they had just put Gomez on the DL right away so as not waste a roster spot this week. Delino DeShields will start in center field and lead off.
4:14 pm (EST)
CC Sabathia (L) Headshot

Sabathia (knee) has been confirmed as Saturday's starter against the Red Sox.

He will come off the DL, but the expectation is that his knee pain could linger for the foreseeable future, so it's possible there could be skipped starts or even another DL stint in his immediate future. Sabathia had given up 12 runs in 13.1 innings over his last three starts before landing on the DL, so he is a pretty risky fantasy option against Boston.
4:06 pm (EST)
Yan Gomes (R) Headshot

Gomes is out of Saturday's lineup against the Royals, Josh Vernier of 610 Sports reports.

He just barely plays enough to be considered the starting catcher, but it's essentially a pretty even timeshare with Roberto Perez. Gomes has six RBI and four hits in his last two games, but Perez will start behind the dish and hit ninth.
