Rondon was protecting a two-run lead, but got into trouble before giving up a three-run home to Brett Gardner, costing the Cubs a potential win. Although he's been a reliable source of holds, this outing won't likely get him many more save opportunities anytime soon.

After Kyle Hendricks cruised through six scoreless innings and Koji Uehara shut down the Pirates in the seventh, Rondon took care of the eighth inning. He's been outstanding so far this season, posting a 1.08 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 11 strikeouts through 8.1 innings. He's behind Wade Davis in the Cubs' bullpen, but Rondon should be a good source of holds, ratios and strikeouts moving forward.

Rondon has been excellent for the Cubs so far this season, posting a 1.42 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and nine strikeouts through 6.1 innings. He's clearly behind Wade Davis in the Chicago bullpen, but Rondon is a good setup option and would presumably take over as closer if anything happened to Davis.

The right-hander was questionable for Friday's contest after injuring his knee Wednesday, but it seems like the clean bill of health offered following his MRI was enough to get him back into action. Rondon will likely be able to resume his duties as the Cubs' setup man moving forward, barring any lingering effects of the ailment.

It appears that Rondon avoided any sort of significant injury from his collision in Wednesday's loss to the Dodgers. Manager Joe Maddon told reporters that Rondon threw a side session Thursday, but added that he may opt to hold Rondon out one extra day before making him available Saturday. If Rondon is indeed held out Friday, Pedro Strop or Carl Edwards would serve as the setup man if necessary.

Rondon also struggled in the World Baseball Classic, giving up three home runs over just two innings. It's not a huge sample size, so Maddon is probably right in not ringing alarm bells quite yet. Rondon figures to work in a setup role ahead of Wade Davis, but if the struggles do continue, he could get bumped down to a lower-leverage role.

Rondon struggled in two outings, giving up three home runs over just two innings, but he said he still enjoyed the experience. "Any moment you go to represent your country, and be there for those fans, it's fun," Rondon said. "I know I had a bad outing that day [against Team USA]. ... It is what it is, and I enjoyed playing with those guys." Rondon figures to work in a setup role ahead of Wade Davis in Chicago's bullpen this year, and he's a good handcuff option for Davis owners.
