The Eagles made cuts to their roster to trim it down to 75 today and Randle joins fellow WR Chris Givens among those who didn't make the cut. It was a pretty telling sign when the Eagles went out and traded for a younger receiver in Dorial Green-Beckham. It looks like the Eagles are ready to move forward with Jordan Matthews, Nelson Agholor, Dorial Green-Beckham, and Josh Huff as the core of their receiving group. Randle has proven in the past he can produce on the field, but he's had issues in the past with his off-field work ethic.
Cobb will be activated off the DL as the Rays have optioned Steve Geltz to Triple-A Durham. Cobb hasn't pitched at all in 2016 and will make his first start of the season next weekend against the Blue Jays which is a tough match to stream Cobb in. The Blue Jays have hit 139 of their 186 home runs this season off righties so it's not an ideal matchup for Cobb to make his 2016 debut in.
Geltz's time with Tampa was short lived as he was called up just yesterday as the Rays optioned Mike Mahtook to Triple-A. Geltz came into Sunday with a 6.75 ERA and the long ball has been an issue for Geltz in 2016. In 20 innings of work heading into Sunday afternoon's game, Geltz had given up 10 home runs. By being sent back down to Durham the Rays are able to activate Alex Cobb off the disabled list.
Guerra's rehabbing as gone as hoped and he is set to be activated off the DL on Friday in time to start against Pittsburgh. The righty has put together a really nice year for himself to the tune of a 7-3 record with a 2.93 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP. He stands to be a very streamable pitcher in season-long fantasy baseball leagues especially with the playoffs approaching.
This is a best-case scenario for the Ravens rookie. He dodged a huge bullet by not suffering a more serious knee injury that could have cost him his season. Justin Forsett is at the top of the depth chart for Baltimore so don't assume he's going to get more work than he already is. Players like Javorius "Buck" Allen and Terrance West have the most to gain from the workload made available by Dixon's injury.
Schafer's contract was purchased to fill in for Danny Santana as the latter was placed on the 15-day DL with an AC sprain in his right shoulder. Schafer offers a good glove to fill in defensively, but in 646 career plate appearances in the big leagues he's hitting just .212 so the offensive upside is not that appealing for fantasy owners.
Santana exited Sunday's game in the top half of the 1st inning after experiencing an AC sprain in his right shoulder. He collided in the outfield with teammate Robbie Grossman. There's no word yet on if the injury is season-ending, but the Twins are still optimistic Santana could rejoin the team in late September. Santana is hitting just .240 on the year with 2 home runs and 14 RBI's with 12 stolen bases.
Myers will likely be back in time for San Diego's next game. He felt a little ill after warm ups so the team pulled him out of the lineup and moved Yangervis Solarte over to first base to replace Myers. Myers earned an All-Star bid this year. He's hit 23 home runs with 73 RBI and he plays half his games in pitcher-friendly Petco Park. Myers also has 23 stolen bases on the year so when he's in the lineup he is a big threat for the Padres.
Jenkins was trying to make a tackle on DeAndre Hopkins, but the latter averted the tackle and Jenkins went to the ground and had to be carted off. Non-contact knee injuries are never a good sign. Typically it means it's a torn knee ligament, but there's no word yet on the severity of the injury.
Nova has been a very serviceable pitcher for Pittsburgh's rotation and the injury couldn't come at a worse time as he had given up just 2 earned runs in his last 15 innings of work prior to being removed from Sunday's game. He threw only 75 pitches so he easily could have gone another inning or two. There's no word yet on the severity of the hamstring injury and if it will cost him a start.
