Michael Lorenzen worked 5 2/3 innings in Friday’s 5-4 loss to the Pirates, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out six.

The Reds are definitely putting Lorenzen through a trial by fire in the rotation, as the 23-year-old rookie has simply been unable to find a rhythm on the mound in quite some time. Over three starts since the All-Star break, he has struggled to an ugly 11.77 ERA and 2.15 WHIP across 13 innings. Time will tell how long the team keeps Lorenzen in the rotation, but for now he is scheduled to be back on the bump Thursday afternoon against the Cardinals.  Analysis: Nate Miller
