Jason Pierre-Paul Headshot

Update: Jason Pierre-Paul (sports-hernia) to miss 4-6 weeks following surgery.

This is updating an earlier item about the defensive end undergoing surgery. It appears Pierre-Paul could return if the Giants make a deep playoff run, but at this point, he is irrelevant for fantasy owners for the remainder of the season.

Fernando Rodney Headshot

Fernando Rodney signed with the Diamondbacks on a one-year, $2.75 million deal.

Early indications suggests Rodney will be the closer which obviously gives him fantasy appeal. However, fantasy owners need to be very cautious with the inconsistent pitcher. After starting the 2015 season with the Padres and pitching to a 0.31 ERA, the right-hander struggled mightily with the Marlins, pitching to a 5.89 ERA in 36 2/3 innings. Rodney also struggled in 2014 so as of now, this is a situation to avoid.

Jason Pierre-Paul Headshot

Jason Pierre-Paul underwent sports hernia surgery on Wednesday.

This is brutal news for a Giants defense that is fighting down the stretch to make the playoffs. Pierre-Paul was looking like the player he has always been prior to his hand injury in 2015 as he totaled 54 tackles along with seven sacks. The Giants will hope someone will step up in Pierre-Paul's absence, but it will be very difficult. IDP owners need to look elsewhere too as this is bad timing with the fantasy football playoffs beginning.

Manny Machado Headshot

Orioles and Manny Machado have has "zero" talks on an extension.

At just age 24, Machado posted a breakout season. With 37 home runs, 94 RBI and a .294/.343/.533 line, these talks figure to happen at some point, and the youngster figures to back up the Brinks truck as his extension will be for big money. If you want the youngsters services come draft day, it will cost you an early first round pick.

Carlos Gomez Headshot

UPDATE: Carlos Gomez has agreed on a one-year, 11.5 million deal with the Rangers, pending a physical.

Gomez will look to continue his success in a Rangers uniform from 2016 where he hit .284 for the Rangers in 33 games, adding eight homers and five steals. Gomez is worth a late round look in most formats.

Orlando Scandrick Headshot

Orlando Scandrick is being limited by plantar fasciitis in his left foot for a few weeks and it’s something he will have to play through for the rest of the season.

Scandrick figures to do anything he can to get on the field for a Cowboys team that is red-hot right now, and headed for the playoffs. On the year, the veteran has 33 tackles and two sacks, and is steady starter in the Cowboys secondary, however, is a shaky start in IDP formats, due to his low tackle numbers and zero interceptions.

Carlos Gomez Headshot

Rangers have met with the representatives of Carlos Gomez on Tuesday.

After a sluggish start for the Astros, Gomez played extremely well for the Rangers, batting .284 and posting eight home runs and five stolen bases in 33 games. At this point, there does not appear to be much interest in the veteran outfielder. He is worth a late round look in drafts, as the payoff for minimal investment could be a big return if he can pick up where he left off in 2016.

Tony Parker Headshot

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich wasn't certain but thinks there's a chance Tony Parker may play Thursday.

Parker has been sidelined since Monday with a knee contusion. His fantasy days of glory figure to be behind him, as he does not get enough minutes to help owners. While Parker is out, Patty Mills figures to be the Spur to benefit the most in Parker's absence.

Chris Tillman Headshot

Orioles opened extension talks with Chris Tillman Tuesday.

In his 30 2016 starts, Tillman was the Orioles most consistent arm. The once top prospect posted a 3.77 ERA, and 140 strikeouts in 172 innings. It makes sense for the Orioles to want him back in the fold. The veteran profiles as a SP4 heading into 2017.

Jarrod Dyson Headshot

Royals are in talks with the Athletics involving Jarrod Dyson.

While Dyson only brings a .260 career average, he brings solid defense and speed wherever he goes. The move would make sense especially if the Royals bring Jorge Soler aboard in a deal with the Cubs for Wade Davis. The Orioles, Cardinals and Rangers have been rumored to be interested in Dyson's services as well. Wherever he lands, his value is increased in monoleagues and very deep leagues.
