Colin Kaepernick Headshot

Colin Kaepernick (shoulder) expects to take the field for Friday's preseason game.

We heard reports that Colin Kaepernick was suffering from "dead" arm but has felt "back to normal" recently. It looks like we will finally get a look at Kaepernick this Friday in the 49ers third preseason game. Blaine Gabbert looks to be the favorite to start Week 1, but Colin won't go down without a fight. The 49ers' offense under Chip Kelly would run better under Kaepernick but he has to show the team something.

Colby Rasmus Headshot

Colby Rasmus has resumed baseball activities back in Houston and is expected to return in September.

The Astros put Rasmus on the disabled list with a cyst in his right ear on August 5th. A week later, he underwent surgery to remove it. Rasmus had been in an ugly slump since the beginning of July with a .057 average and 25 strikeouts. The hope is that the veteran outfielder will be ready to return to the Astros' active roster in about 10 days.

Jung-Ho Kang Headshot

Jung Ho Kang (shoulder) is playing catch, throwing and fielding grounders hit directly to him on Wednesday.

This is a good start but Kang has still not been cleared to swing a bat yet and it doesn't look like that will happen anytime soon. He was placed on the disabled list on August 20 with a left shoulder subluxation. He probably won't be ready until mid-September.

Tyler Glasnow Headshot

Tyler Glasnow will throw a bullpen with Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday.

Glasnow was placed on the disabled list on July 24th after experiencing shoulder discomfort. It looks like he could rejoin the Pirates' starting rotation sometime next week if everything goes well at Triple-A. He owns a 5.40 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, and a 7/5 K/BB ratio over his first two major league starts over 8 1/3 innings.

Steven Wright Headshot

Steven Wright (strained right shoulder) is on schedule to start Friday night against Kansas City.

The Red Sox have cleared him but you have to be a little nervous when you hear him say, "it’s still a little achy, but when I get out on the mound it doesn’t really bother me. I think it’s just something from not throwing consistently like I have been." The knuckleballer has a 3.01 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 123/51 K/BB ratio in a 146 2/3 innings this season with Boston.

Koji Uehara Headshot

Koji Uehara (right pectoral strain) threw 33 pitches in his first mound session and will be evaluated in a week.

The Red Sox plan on him doing the same work on Friday and then again on Monday before he faces a real batter. Uehara was placed on the disabled list on July 20 with a pectoral strain. The hope is that he returns to the big league club in the middle of September if everything goes well from here.

Philly Brown Headshot

Philly Brown (shoulder) not practicing on Wednesday.

Philly Brown is dealing with a shoulder injury after taking a tough hit during Tuesday's practice. He is getting a day or two to rest and recover. He'll be the Panthers fourth wide receiving option behind Kelvin Benjamin, Devin Funchess, and Ted Ginn.
