Fantasy Alarm
Chad Johnson Headshot

Johnson will take part in the 2017 IIHF World Championship, Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun reports.

Johnson will likely be eager to get onto the ice considering the Flames used him for just two periods during their brief Stanley Cup playoffs appearance. On the year, the netminder posted an 18-15-1 recording -- including a trio of shutouts -- along with a .910 save percentage. Once he is done representing his country, the 30-year-old will probably turn his focus to next season as he looks for a new contract -- which may or may not be with Calgary.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia Headshot

Saltalamacchia was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on Friday, John Lott of the Athletic reports.

The Blue Jays finally ran out of patience with Saltalamacchia, who has struggled mightily at the plate this season. After a disappointing 2016 in which he hit for a .171 batting average, the veteran catcher is slashing .040/.077/.040 in his 26 plate appearances so far in 2017.
3:49 pm (EST)
Luke Maile Headshot

Maile was promoted to the Blue Jays' big-league roster on Friday, John Lott of the Athletic reports.

Maile will take the place of Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who was designated for assignment on Friday. So far with Triple-A Buffalo this season, the 26-year-old catcher has slashed .195/.214/.195 in 42 plate appearances. He'll likely provide mostly defensive value as backup catcher for the Blue Jays this season.
3:46 pm (EST)
Nail Yakupov Headshot

Yakupov (undisclosed) will not be available for Game 2 against the Predators on Friday, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports.

Yakupov will miss his 12th straight contest with this ailment and has yet to join his teammates for practice. The Blues have provided very little information on the former first-round pick, which isn't surprising considering he was used infrequently since being brought in via trade. Even once cleared, the pending free agent may keep watching from the press box.
3:44 pm (EST)
Nelson Cruz Headshot

Cruz was scratched from Friday's contest against the Indians with a leg cramp, Shannon Drayer of MyNorthwest.com reports.

Not much else is known given the vague diagnosis, so expect another update once the Mariners release more on Cruz's status. Taylor Motter replaced him in the lineup for the game.
3:44 pm (EST)
Didi Gregorius Headshot

Gregorius is starting at shortstop and batting sixth Friday against the Orioles.

Gregorius will slot right back into the starting lineup after being activated from the disabled list earlier Friday. He'll continue to serve as the Yankees' everyday shortstop moving forward.
3:38 pm (EST)
James McCann Headshot

McCann is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the White Sox.

It appears to be a normal day off for McCann, as Alex Avila will instead get the start. The 26-year-old catcher has gotten off to a hot-and-cold start as a hitter this season. While he has hit for a disappointing .173 batting average, he has also slugged five home runs.
3:37 pm (EST)
Lonnie Chisenhall Headshot

Chisenhall is not in the lineup Friday against the Mariners.

Chisenhall will head to the bench as the Mariners send out lefty-throwing Ariel Miranda. Austin Jackson will take over in center field in his stead.
3:36 pm (EST)
Sammy Solis Headshot

Solis underwent an MRI on his elbow Friday and the team is awaiting results, Chelsea James of the Washington Post reports.

Solis has been dealing with nerve irritation over the past couple weeks and seems to be lingering for longer than was previously expected. The MRI should provide a clearer picture on when he will be able to return to regular action.
3:34 pm (EST)
Jim Adduci Headshot

Adduci is back in the Tigers' lineup Friday after exiting Thursday's game with a tight calf.

It appears Adduci's calf issue was a not serious one, as he won't even be missing a single game. While there's a chance his calf tightness could still affect his running ability, the team would likely not be playing him Friday if they expected it to significantly hamper him.
