Stephon Gilmore Headshot

Despite not receiving a new contract, Stephon Gilmore reported for training camp on Thursday.

This is the last season of Gilmore's rookie contract and it was a wise move for him to report to training camp. If he held out, he would've been docked $30,000 per day until he arrived. Both parties are hoping that a deal can be reached in the coming weeks.

Brandon Nimmo Headshot

Mets recalled Brandon Nimmo from Triple-A Las Vegas.

No corresponding move has been made, but it appears as though the Mets are going to send someone to the disabled list. With Nimmo being recalled, there is a good chance that person will be Yoenis Cespedes. Nimmo is currently on a nine game hit streak at Triple-A Las Vegas and will likely see starts against right-handed pitching.

Robbie Ray Headshot

Robbie Ray logged 5.2 innings in Thursday’s 6-4 loss to the Brewers, allowing five runs on five hits and two walks while racking up 11 strikeouts.

Ray was actually putting together a nice outing on the mound Thursday before being tagged for three runs in the bottom of the sixth. The 24-year-old lefty continues to register punchouts at an impressive rate, as he has struck out at least seven batters in each of his last eight starts. Ray’s 4.70 ERA and 1.50 WHIP for the year are nothing to write home about, but an 11.2 K/9 across 115.0 innings certainly is. He remains an N.L. Only and mixed-league matchup play heading into Tuesday’s start against the Nationals.

Yasmany Tomas Headshot

Yasmany Tomas went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Thursday’s 6-4 loss to the Brewers.

Tomas has really heated up at the plate during the past 10 days or so. The Cuban-born slugger has hit safely in eight of his last nine games, going 14-for-36 with four homers, five doubles and 10 RBI in that stretch. Tomas has proven to be a streaky performer with the bat since coming to the States prior to last season, but he is in the midst of quite a solid campaign for the Diamondbacks. Across 87 games so far in 2016, he has slugged .480 with 20 doubles and 17 home runs.

Jeremy Jeffress Headshot

Jeremy Jeffress picked up a save in Thursday’s 6-4 win over the Diamondbacks, striking out one while retiring the side in order during the top of the ninth inning.

It took a while, but Jeffress picked up his first save of the second half Thursday afternoon. That is not to say the 28-year-old righty has been pitching poorly, but rather that he had yet to find an opportunity. Jeffress has now converted 24-of-25 save chances on the season, pitching to a nice 2.13 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 33-to-10 K/BB ratio across 42.1 innings in the process.

Hernan Perez Headshot

Hernan Perez went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, a couple of runs scored and two stolen bases in Thursday’s 6-4 win over the Diamondbacks.

Perez came up big batting out of the three hole for the Brewers on Thursday afternoon. The 25-year-old infielder has been swinging the bat extremely well since the break, batting .357 (15-of-42) with two homers, three doubles, 11 RBI and six steals while hitting safely in 10-of-12 games. Perez is a solid N.L. Only option right now and sneaking up the ranks in deeper mixed-league formats.
