Oh man. Look at this. A guy goes away for a couple of days and look how everything falls apart. Say it ain’t so, Bartolo. Say it ain’t so. I guess we all now know how, at 39 years old and 267 pounds (which is definitely lowballing),Bartolo Colon managed to post up 10 wins and a 3.43 ERA while pitching for the A’s this season. But now,he's following in the footsteps of Melky Cabrera and sitting out the next 50 games which kisses this season goodbye as well as any chance of a legitimate contract during the offseason.
Don’t be fooled by the calm right now. Sure, most of the dust has settled from the non-waiver trade deadline, but we’re still in for a whole mess of player movement as there’s almost a full month still to go where teams can put a guy through waivers and, if unclaimed, are free to trade him wherever they like. If they do get claimed then the two teams can hash out a deal or the original team just pulls the guy back. Either way, as we’ve already seen Joe Blanton pass through unclaimed and land with the Dodgers and reports of Cliff Lee getting claimed by some mystery team, you have to stay prepared for more movement. If you’ve got a high-priced (in real life) player who’s rumored to be on the move, you’ve got to be prepared if he lands in a new situation.
We all know the trade deadline is coming. We read about it constantly and spend hours tracking the rumor mill. But for some reason it never feels real or even imminent until that first day where rumors become reality and big moves start to happen. Monday was that day for MLB and for fantasy owners. What began as numerous Tweeters jumping the gun on a Cubs/Braves deal for Ryan Dempster, the day suddenly turned into a head turning “Whaaaaat?!?!?” for many of us. Here’s a look at what went down and how Monday’s deals will fall out with respect to fantasy.
With the July31st non-waiver trade deadline rapidly approaching, we’ve been seeing a few deals pop up recently that obviously have some effect on the fantasy baseball world. It’s not like we’ve seen any real big blockbusters that are sending owners into some panicked frenzy, but, rest assured, those will certainly be coming soon. For now though, there are some that are having a bit of an impact that we should probably be taking a look at as they are happening. So let’s just do a quick rundown here and see what’s been going on.
The season is not even two weeks old and already injuries are wreaking havoc on fantasy baseball teams everywhere. Sorry for such a brief introduction, but I sprained by left middle knuckle typing that last sentence. The doctors say I am day to day, but chances are I will need to book an appointment with Dr. James Andrews. So without further adieu, here is the next edition of the walking wounded.
Happy Memorial Day! Today we pay tribute to the men and women who serve in our Armed Forces, and take the time to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice and laid down their lives in defense of this country. We at Fantasy Alarm have nothing but the utmost respect for those who serve and have served to protect us and the liberties and principles of the United States. We thank you for your service this day. It is a rough transition to fantasy baseball, but Memorial Day has become a big day in the Major League Baseball season. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the news of the day in Rounding The Bases.
It was a shortened schedule in the Major Leagues which means there isn't much to talk about in Rounding The Bases, but we have one of the most devastating injuries to date happening, as well as a middle infielder who goes down, while one that just came back who left the yard. A few outfielders are showing more muscle than anticipated, while another Mets' player goes down due to injury. As we get closer to June it means that each game is more important, and your subscription to the Fantasy Alarm service is even more vital to your championship, so visit the homepage now and get all of your player updates sent to your cell phone or to your email inbox tomorrow!
