It is the final day before the All-Star break and that means that the news is hot and heavier than ever. We have the American League Cy Young winner for the first half shows exactly why he deserves that award. A prospect that didn't have all the hype in the world continues to show why he is worth having on your fantasy team, while a guy that we had pegged in the beginning of the season continues to show his wares. One of fantasy baseball's best will go under the knife, while another Pirates pitcher shows why you need to have faith in the group. It isn't too late to invest in the Fantasy Alarm service, now more than ever you need to know when your stars will be in or out of their team's lineups.
I know it has been a while since you have read Rounding The Bases, but we are back and better than ever as we close out the month of June and approach the All-Star Break. As always there is a bunch of injury news with both pitchers and hitters, both good and bad. Of course we cover the night's games too and give you the performers that you need to know about for your fantasy roster. And of course don't forget our world famous pitching streamers to help those of you who have a hole in your pitching rotation. It is good to be back and hopefully you enjoy Rounding The Bases.
Welcome to the third installment of the Tuesday Top Ten where I will be presenting you with ten of the most newsworthy events in all of baseball, both real and fantasy. Each item will have some general information and then a short analysis of the potential fantasy impact. As you already know, the ranking of the list is completely subjective based on my own arbitrary criteria. So without further adieu, let's get a drumroll from Paul Shaffer and roll out the Tuesday Top Ten list for May 17, 2011.
It was a huge schedule on Wednesday as there were 17 games in total with doubleheaders included, and there is a ton to talk about. We have a elite player who takes a leave, one of the best back on the field, and a couple of younger hitters who won't be on it for a little while. We have one of the hotter prospects in baseball headed back to the farm, and a disappointing closer who seems to have found his groove. There is all of that news and so much more as we take you around the box scores and give you every piece of fantasy relevant happenings and how it should affect your team.
Happy Saturday to you all as another weekend of fantasy baseball is upon us. Tonight we have some injury news on some of the biggest names in the game, as well as a first round fantasy pick riding the pine on Saturday. There is talk of some pitching in Boston and in the Bronx, as well as speculating on how long this hot streak in Cleveland will last. Is it all for real? Speaking of for real, what about this guy in Kansas City that is suddenly lighting it up right when we all gave up hope on him? Don't forget to check out all the rest of the great content on Fantasy Alarm as we continue to help lead you to a fantasy championship!
So much action taking place tonight but perhaps the biggest story of the year is our headline this evening. There are a number of reports that say Manny Ramirez failed another random PED test about a week ago and was about to be issued a 100 game suspension. But Ramirez abruptly retired this afternoon instead of facing the wrath of the commissioner's office and yet another suspension. It is a very sad way to go out for one of the games all-time greatest hitters but it has become obvious that "Manny being Manny" is nowhere near as charming as it used to be. Now let's check out what else happened around the league tonight....
Tonight there isn't a lot of general news or many games on the schedule so the Rounding The Bases entry is a little shorter than usual, but it is no less important for you to read. There is some fantastic news on Matt Holliday, some more of the same from the New York Yankees, and impressive performances by young Braves pitchers. We also highlight a couple of aging, injury prone players that are screaming "SELL HIGH ON ME!" and we identify them. All of this and more for you to enjoy from a light Monday in the major leagues.
