Chris Sale Headshot

Update: Chris Sale was scratched Saturday due to a pre-game clubhouse incident.

As the world turns, so too does the White Sox clubhouse ignite again in turmoil. Sale was very outspoken in Spring Training about the Drake LaRoche debacle that led Adam LaRoche to retire from baseball, and that assuredly hasn't sat well with the White Sox brass. He's been the hottest topic in trade rumors over the past few days, perhaps partially because of the Spring Training incident, so it's anyone's guess as to what really is going on in that clubhouse. We will continue to update this soap opera as more information is released.

Hyun-Soo Kim Headshot

Hyun-Soo Kim will begin two-day rehab assignment on Sunday.

Kim has been on the DL since July 19th (retroactive to July 11th) with a strained right hamstring. Given he's being sent out on a rehab assignment already, it shouldn't be much longer before he's ready to rejoin the Orioles. The Orioles were slow to give him playing time at the start of the season, but he's been terrific in a platoon role for them ever since, slashing .355/.428/.489 against right-handed pitching. He doesn't have much power or stolen base ability, but in a deep league he's an effective option for runs scored and BA/OBP.

Ubaldo Jimenez Headshot

Orioles placed Ubaldo Jiménez on the paternity list.

Ubaldo has pitched to a cool 7.38 ERA and 5.5% strikeout minus walk percentage in his 81.2 innings of work this season across 17 starts. Fantasy owners shouldn't miss him while he's gone, nor should they be scuttling to add his replacement, Tyler Wilson. It's a situation to avoid altogether.

Tyler Wilson Headshot

Orioles recalled Tyler Wilson from Triple-A Norfolk

Wilson has thrown 81 innings across 13 starts and three relief appearances for the O's this season, but owns a bloated 5.22 ERA and fantasy irrelevant 4.78 K/9. Whether starting or relieving, he can be safely avoided for fantasy purposes.

Tyler Glasnow Headshot

Update: Tyler Glasnow was removed from Saturday's game due to right shoulder discomfort.

That's certainly not a good sign for an already beleaguered Pirates rotation. Glasnow had walked three and struck out two in his three innings of work before being removed, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits. He did manage to run his pitch count up to 78 in those three innings, so clearly something was awry. Shoulder injuries can be scary for pitchers, so hopefully this is nothing more than some tenderness and he'll be ok for his next start. We will continue to update his status as more information is released.

Taylor Mays Headshot

Bengals have released Taylor Mays.

Mays was with the Bengals from 2011-2014 before spending a season with Oakland last year. The Bengals snapped him up again even after knowing that he would miss the first four games of the season due to suspension, but apparently they didn't see enough from Mays to even keep him around for a veteran minimum salary. He could still get a shot with another club at some point this season.

Chad Qualls Headshot

Rockies placed Chad Qualls on the 15-day disabled list.

Qualls will be replaced in the bullpen by Scott Oberg. After a decent 2015 campaign, Qualls has struggled to a 5.61 ERA and 4.91 K/9 in his 25.2 innings of work for the Rockies this season. He holds no fantasy relevance upon his return.
Scott Oberg Headshot

Rockies recalled Scott Oberg from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Oberg spent some time with the Rockies earlier this season, working a 4.05 ERA across 13.1 innings of relief with a 5.40 K/9. He's been outstanding at Triple-A, posting a 10.92 K/9 and a 2.43 ERA in 29.2 innings, so perhaps there's some more potential here than what he showed in his first go around. With the Rockies having a suddenly stacked bullpen following the return of Adam Ottavino and Jake McGee, Oberg will work only low-leverage situations.

Matt Albers Headshot

Matt Albers will start Saturday for the White Sox.

Albers will make an emergency start in the wake of Chris Sale's last minute scratch. It'll be his first start of the season, so don't expect him to last more than a few innings. He's an easy avoid for fantasy purposes, boasting a 5.03 ERA with a 5.56 K/9 across 34 innings of relief this season.

Chris Sale Headshot

Chris Sale was scratched from Saturday's start.

Oh boy. There's been rampant speculation that the White Sox have been inundated with trade offers for their ace, and this could be a sign that they may have finally found an offer they like. It could just be precautionary of course, and no official reason has been given yet for the scratch, but stay tuned. Things are potentially about to get very interesting.
