Sam Dyson allowed one hit and struck out two in the Rangers 3-2 win over the Twins on Friday.

Dyson showed no ill effects of his disastrous blown save against the Yankees earlier this week, as he took care of the Twins on Friday in routine fashion. Though there had been slight rumbles of a closer shakeup in Texas, this performance should go a long way in quieting that talk. Dyson should be in line for the future save opportunities for the Rangers.

Dustin McGowan earned his first save of the season after recording one strikeout over one inning in the Marlins 7-5 win over the Braves.

While fantasy analysts try to decide if Fernando Rodney or A.J. Ramos will record saves moving forward for the Marlins, a new contender has thrown his hat in the ring. That’s a joke, but McGowan did pick up the spot save for the club. He has been a reliable piece of their bullpen this season but is not fantasy relevant as he now has one save and one hold on the season.

Justin Nicolino allowed seven hits and four earned runs while walking one and striking out one over five innings in the Marlins 7-5 win over the Braves.

This was a pretty ugly start for Nicolino, and that has been par for the course for him of late, as he has allowed 14 earned runs over 15.1 innings. Between his awful ratios and even worse strikeout numbers there is no reason for Nicolino to be on your fantasy radar.

Julio Teheran allowed 11 hits and five earned runs while walking none and striking out six over 6.2 innings in the Braves 7-5 loss to the Marlins on Friday.

With a performance like this, Teheran must really want to stay in Atlanta. The Marlins took Teheran deep twice on Friday and otherwise roughed him up. The one positive is the six strikeouts, a stat Teheran has consistently provided this season. Teheran had entered today’s start without allowing a run in his past two starts, which spanned 17 innings. That said, he has been outstanding this season and there should be little fear of another poor performance when he takes the mound next on Wednesday at Philly.

Jordy Mercer went 2-for-4 with a home run (5) on Friday night against the A's.

Mercer has impressed at the plate so far this season, but by no means should his talents be mistaken for a power hitter. Sure he can get on base, but his pace for 10 home runs on the season is about his cap or best case scenario. Considering that, Mercer holds value only in deeper formats or AL Only leagues going forward.

Marcus Semien went 1-for-4 with a home run (17) on Friday night against the Pirates.

Make it back-to-back nights in which the suddenly slugging shortstop has homered. Say what you want about his mediocre average and low OBP, but with a pace of 34 home runs and 87 RBI, Semien certainly deserves roster consideration in all formats going forward.

Derek Dietrich went 1-for-3 with a home run, one RBI, and run scored in the Marlins 7-5 win over the Braves on Friday.

After going homerless in June, Dietrich decided to get off the schneid and go deep on the first of July. Though he is a fine player in real life, Dietrich’s value in the fantasy world is limited to OBP leagues. He will also soon be losing playing time when Dee Gordon returns from suspension, and for that reason he also has little fantasy value.

Jeff Locke went five innings, allowed three runs on three hits and three walks, while he struck out three in a win over the A's on Friday night.

His record shows respectability (8-5) as do most of his game logs, however with back-to-back horrendous efforts (11 earned and seven earned runs consecutively) it is unclear which pitcher the Pirates are getting each night. Best bet is to expect the good in him and that he is over his back-to-back blowups that kicked off the month of June.

Sonny Gray went six innings, allowed seven runs on seven hits and one walk, while he struck out four in a loss on Friday night to the Pirates.

While fantasy owners may be reaching the breaking point with the former Cy Young contender, Gray is still only one start removed from back-to-back quality starts with a combined 10 strikeouts. Best advice is to hang on to him for a couple more starts to see if he can turn it around, and if not, then he can be dropped by the All-Star break.

Marcell Ozuna went 4-for-6 with a home run, three RBI, and one run scored in the Marlins 7-5 win over the Braves on Friday.

Ozuna cracked his 17th home run of the season in the first inning of Friday’s game off Julio Teheran. Though he has hit well for much of the season, he has taken his performance to a new level of late as he has five home runs in his past ten games. He and the Marlins will square off against Lucas Harrell tomorrow, so Ozuna could be in for another nice performance.
