Barrett Astin Headshot

Astin was recalled from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

With the Reds in need of another bullpen arm after Amir Garrett failed to go four innings, Astin will rejoin the Reds for the third time this season, replacing Ariel Hernandez on the active roster. it could be another brief stint, however, with Rookie Davis (forearm) expected to return from the DL Wednesday.

Zach Putnam Headshot

Putnam was placed on the DL on Tuesday with elbow inflammation.

There had been recent reports that Putnam was back in full health and ready to pitch. However, it appears that the club may have been optimistic regarding his condition. More information regarding Putnam's eventual return should become available as he increases his level of throwing activity. To this point, Putnam had been a solid bullpen arm for the White Sox. Over seven games (8.2 innings) he struck out nine batters and allowed just one run.

Luis Severino Headshot

Severino will pitch Wednesday's game against the Red Sox, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Severino was initially slated to start Tuesday's contest, but he'll slide back a day following Tuesday's rainout. He'll still face off with Rick Porcello, while Masahiro Tanaka and CC Sabathia will move to Thursday and Friday, respectively.
4:19 pm (EST)
Kasperi Kapanen Headshot

Kapanen was sent down to AHL Toronto on Tuesday.

Kapanen should provide a significant offensive boost to a Marlies squad that is currently tied at a game apiece in their best of five series against AHL Albany. The 20-year-old potted a pair of goals in Game 2 against the Caps, including the game-winner. Now he will return to the minors where he averaged a point per game in 43 outings this year as he continues his development. The Maple Leafs are stocked with young talent, but Kapanen could challenge for a spot on the 23-man roster next season.
4:14 pm (EST)
Tyler Saladino Headshot

Saladino is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Royals.

It appears that Tuesday will be a routine night off for Saladino, as he's played three consecutive games. With Saladino resting, Yolmer Sanchez will get the nod to start at second base. Look for Saladino to return to action Wednesday against Kansas City.
4:14 pm (EST)
Jusuf Nurkic Headshot

Nurkic (leg) believes his fracture will take 2-3 months to fully heal, Joe Freeman of The Oregonian reports.

While the word is coming from Nurkic rather than official team doctor, it's the best indication of a recovery time that has been noted at the moment. By his estimate, the earliest his leg could be fully healed is late June or early July. Thankfully for him and the team, that timetable will probably still leave him with ample opportunity in the offseason to improve his body and his game before the start of training camp next season. Those thinking about drafting him in fantasy next season shouldn't have any reason to be concerned about the status of his leg, unless he encounters a setback during his rehabilitation.
4:14 pm (EST)
Ariel Hernandez Headshot

Hernandez was optioned to Double-A Pensacola on Tuesday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

As expected, the 25-year-old's stint with the Reds was a brief one, as he made just one appearance before being optioned back to Pensacola. Hernandez struck out five and didn't allow a hit through 2.2 innings in his lone outing, and could see another call-up in 2017 if he continues to display impressive stuff. Barrett Astin was recalled to offer another bullpen arm in a corresponding move.
4:11 pm (EST)
Jurickson Profar Headshot

Profar is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Twins.

With Profar sitting out, the Rangers will start Ryan Rua in left field. Profar's season hasn't gotten off to the best start as he's hitting just .135/.289/.135 after playing in 14 games.
4:08 pm (EST)
Sami Vatanen Headshot

Vatanen (upper body) will be a game-time decision against Edmonton in Wednesday's Game 1 matchup, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.

Prior to getting hurt, Vatanen garnered just four helpers during a 17-game goal drought. As such, fantasy owners probably shouldn't expect an offensive explosion from the blueliner once he is cleared for action. Defensively, however, the Finn could make life difficult for Connor McDavid; especially on the penalty kill where he averaged 2:12 of ice time during the regular season.
