Mark Trumbo Headshot

Update: Mark Trumbo has agreed to a three-year deal worth north of $35M with the Orioles.

Well that moved quickly. Trumbo, the homer leader in the majors last season, originally shunned the O's three-year, $40 million deal in the hopes that there would be greener pastures somewhere else, however that never came to fruition for him. Now that it's mid-January and he was still without a team, the O's pounced when he reached out and said he would like to work out a deal. With his big bat back in the lineup, along with Manny Machado, Adam Jones, and Chris Davis, the O's have as potent of a lineup as anyone in the American League heading into 2017.

Joakim Noah Headshot

Joakim Noah (ankle) is out for Thursday's game.

Noah will now miss his second straight game with the badly swollen ankle after having an MRI on it on Thursday. WIlly Hernangomez had the best performance in taking Noah's place in the previous game but Kyle O'Quinn could still draw the start on Thursday.

Kristaps Porzingis Headshot

Kristaps Porzingis (Achilles) will play on Thursday.

The unicorn's missed games run will end at four with him playing on Thursday after an MRI showed no structural damage in the ankle. Porzingis has been very good for the Knicks when he's out on the floor, though the last couple of games were underwhelming performances. With him out there, his typical night of 19+ points and 7+ rebounds can be expected.

Kevin Love Headshot

Kevin Love (back) ruled out for Thursday's game.

Love was pretty confident that he wouldn't need to miss any more than Monday's game with the back issue, but that now has changed. He didn't do so well at morning shootaround and that made the final decision not in his favor. James Jones is expected to start in his place on Thursday but it seems like a spot duty role and nothing more.

James Jones Headshot

James Jones will start at power-forward for the injured Kevin Love on Thursday.

This is unfamiliar territory for Jones as he hasn't started a regular season game since the 2014-15 season and has only seen just over five minutes a game to this point this season. He shouldn't get any more than 15 minutes on Thursday in the spot role and shouldn't be a fantasy factor after this either.

Tyson Ross Headshot

Tyson Ross and the Rangers have officially come to terms on a one-year contract.

The deal was agreed on late last week however it takes a few days to iron out the contract paperwork and the like. Ross was non-tendered by San Diego earlier in the offseason and is coming off thoracic outlet syndrome surgery, much like Matt Harvey, and the Rangers are will to take a chance on the veteran pitcher. A one-year, $6 million pact with performance incentives also in there is what the final arrangement comes out too, but there is still a good chance that he won't be ready for the start of the season just yet.

Rudy Gay Headshot

Rudy Gay (Achilles) will have surgery within the next few days and will miss the remainder of the season.

Gay has been plagued by micro tearing in his Achilles dating back to 2014 but this time he has fully torn the left Achilles per MRI results gotten on Thursday, The injury couldn't have come at a worse time as he is heading into a contract year and will now have to go through the rigorous rehab process instead. Garret Temple and Matt Barnes will see the bulk of the minutes in his place the rest of the way, unless the team makes a move at the trade deadline in February.

Mark Trumbo Headshot

Update: Mark Trumbo and the Orioles are closing in on a deal.

Per reports from Ken Rosenthal, the slugger told the Orioles that he would be willing to sign a three-year deal in the $40-$50 million range and that has accelerated the talks between the parties. The deal, if done, should be able to be hammered out in the next couple of days without much back and forth having to occur at this point.

Martellus Bennett Headshot

Martellus Bennett (knee) was limited at practice on Thursday.

Limited practice have been a theme of his this season in New England and they haven't really hurt his production yet. He has been a big part of the offense since Gronk went down early in the year and that should continue again against a team in the Steelers who was questionable against tight ends much of the year.

Malcolm Mitchell Headshot

Malcolm Mitchell (knee) was limited at practice on Thursday.

Mitchell has been limited this week in practice after missing the last game against Houston with the knee ailment. The limited nature of the practice sessions will likely give him a questionable tag for the game but in all likelihood he should play against Pittsburgh. With the way the Patriots offense has been rolling of late, he may not factor that much into the game plan even if he goes.
