NBA camps are officially open! Free agency is also underway and we have the latest rumors. The proposed deal that would send Chris Paul to the Lakers is still in play. Houston, Los Angeles and New Orleans continue to look for ways to make it happen with league approval. For the most part, all players under contract reported for duty for training across the country.
While general managers continue to work a potential CP3 deal, Dwight Howard's agent says his client has been given permission to talk trade with the Nets, Mavericks and Lakers. It's not known what Dallas has to offer, but Andrew Bynum, Brook Lopez and draft picks are on the table from Los Angeles and New Jersey respectively.
Chris Paul may still end up in Los Angeles, but its unknown if Houston will be part of the next deal. Indiana reportedly could be involved with seperate negotiations with Boston and Golden State also a possibility.
Derek Rose never complains, but Chicago knows it needs a scoring option at shooting guard along side him. Detroit is finally parting ways with Richard Hamilton. Chicago is expected to offer a two year deal in the 10 million dollar range.
Golden State remains focused on Clippers free agent center DeAndre Jordan. He will be pricy and cap space is necessary.
The Wizards let him get away in free agency in 2008, but now guard Roger Mason is back in Washington.
Dallas has already lost Tyson Chandler an Caron Butler, but look to be adding Vince Carter who was cut lose by Phoenix.
Boston is one of the busiest teams in the East, Glenn "Big Baby" Davis is already in Orlando with LSU college teammate Brandon Bass now a Celtic, The Celtics are looking for more help in the post and NBA.com's David Aldridge is reporting David West may be heading to Beantown for forward Jermaine O'Neal and others in a sign and trade deal. And Keyon Dooling was acquired from Milwaukee for a second round pick.
Finally, lost of news from Portland, none of it good. Brandon Roy will retire do to balky knees, but will stay on the cap this season. If he is deemed unable to play a year from now, insurance will take over payments and the Blazers will get 80% cap relief. LaMarcus Aldridge has undergone a heart procedure and is day to day for the start of the season. And I had a double take on this one..... Center Greg Oden has had a setback and probably will not play this season.
