Cameron Rupp Headshot

Cameron Rupp (head) did not show signs of sustaining a concussion Saturday.

Rupp took a Glasnow pitch off the helmet in Saturdays' game, but thankfully seems to be no worse for the wear. He was removed in the top of the third inning with the injury and replaced with Carlos Ruiz. His owners in weekly leagues will want to check for updates heading into next weeks' lineup lock.

Mark Melancon Headshot

Mark Melancon pitched a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts to record his 29th save in the Pirates 7 - 4 win over Philadelphia on Saturday.

After blowing back-to-back saves earlier this week, Mark Melancon has bounced back to record consecutive saves. Melancon struck out two in a clean inning on Saturday to restore the faith. For the season, Melancon is third in the National League in saves with a 1.55 ERA and a 38:9 K:BB rate in 40.2 innings this year. He is a top tier closer moving forward and with the Pirates in contention, he should not be moved prior to the trade deadline.

Starling Marte Headshot

Starling Marte was 1-for-3 with a run, RBI and he was hit by a pitch during Pittsburgh’s 7 - 4 win over the Phillies on Saturday.

In what has been a breakout year for Starling Marte, he has seemed to hit the wall in July. Hopefully he can get hot again with the soft schedule awaiting the Pirates. Marte had a hit, run, RBI and reached base after being hit by a pitch. He is slashing .311/.363/.457 this year with 52 runs, seven home runs, 35 RBI and 33 stolen bases in 90 games. Marte is the first Pirate since Barry Bonds to record four consecutive stolen base seasons. Yes, that Barry Bonds. Marte is on pace for 12 home runs and 55 stolen bases this year.

Francisco Cervelli Headshot

Francisco Cervelli was 2-for-3 with an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the Pirates 7 - 4 win over Philadelphia on Saturday.

It has been a frustrating year for Francisco Cervelli as he has had to battle injuries. He worked hard on rehab and returned early from his broken hand. He has three hits in 12 at bats since his return with a run, double and two RBI. Cervelli is hitting .257/.366/.296 this year but is a lifetime .280/.358/.376 hitter in the majors and should see his average rebound in the second half. As a second catcher who provides run and RBI without damaging batting average, Cervellis does have value moving forward.

Gregory Polanco Headshot

Gregory Polanco was 1-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI in the Pirates 7 - 4 win over Philadelphia on Saturday.

Despite his average slipping from .297 to .282 over his last 10 games, Gregory Polanco is too talented to slide too far. He had a base hit in four at bats on Saturday with a run scored and two RBI in the Pirates win. Through 87 games, Polanco has 54 runs with 12 home runs, 53 RBI and nine stolen bases. His OBP of .357 is a nice sign of growth as he paces towards 20 home runs and 15 steals this year. But for where he is drafted each year, a bit more production would be appreciated by his fantasy owners. Keep tabs to see how he finishes the second half as the Pirates try to return to postseason.

Tyler Glasnow Headshot

Tyler Glasnow allowed two runs (one earned) with three walks and two strikeouts over three innings in the Pirates 7 - 4 win over the Phillies on Saturday.

After being a poster boy for fantasy owners crying for a pitcher being left in the minors too long, Tyler Glasnow had a frustrating day in Pittsburgh. Not only did he have more walks than strikeouts during his three innings of work, but Glasnow was forced to leave early due to tightness in his right shoulder. Glasnow was very good at Triple-A this year with a 7 - 3 record and a 1.94 ERA but it masked his struggles with commanding his pitches and keeping runners from running wild when on the mound. Both weaknesses were on display on Saturday as the Phillies stole five bases with him on the mound. Until more is known regarding his injury, Glasnow should not be trusted for fantasy at this time. If he is healthy, Glasnow could be in line to pitch at Milwaukee but should be considered questionable at this time.

Cesar Hernandez Headshot

Cesar Hernandez was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two stolen bases (9) in the Phillies 7 - 4 loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday.

It has been a disappointing season for Cesar Hernandez this year but he did have two steals and two RBI in the Phillies loss on Saturday. Hernandez is slashing .281/.322/.363 this year but was drafted as a sleeper for stolen bases. He has disappointed with only nine this year but does have three over the last four games. However, his lack of counting stats makes him a marginal fantasy asset outside of deep league formats.

Tommy Joseph Headshot

Tommy Joseph was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a walk in the Phillies 7 - 4 loss to the Pirates on Saturday.

Upon his promotion, Tommy Joseph started hot with the Phillies then his strikeouts caught up with his production. But he has turned things around to start the second half with seven hits in his last 21 at bats with three runs, two home runs and three RBI. His average is still at .264 after 49 games and he is the fastest Philadelphia player to 12 home runs ever. It remains to be seen if his power can can support his 49 strikeouts against nine walks this year but fantasy fans are only here for the home runs.

Odubel Herrera Headshot

Odubel Herrera was 3-for-4 with two runs, a triple, walk and two stolen bases (14) during the Phillies 7 - 4 loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday.

Odubel Herrera was the talk of the first part of the year with his breakthrough in walks versus his strikeouts. He has regressed to the mean of late but does have back-to-back three-hit games for the Phillies. Through 98 games, Herrera has a .290/.373/.425 slash line with 55 runs, 10 home runs and 14 stolen bases. He is still pacing towards a career year in most of his categories and is due for some positive numbers the rest of July. Both of his stolen bases happened with Tyler Glasnow on the mound. Herrera has yet to face Jameson Taillon in the majors as they will meet for the first time on Sunday.
