Giancarlo Stanton went 2-for-4 and belted his 36th home run of the year in the eighth inning but it was not enough as the Marlins fell to the Mets 4-3 on Wednesday.

David Wright, who has been diagnosed with lumbar spinal stenosis, offered no timetable but says he will play again this year.

While it's great news that Wright's injury is not career threatening it is very difficult to invest in a player with his injury history. If you have an open DL spot on your roster he's worth a flier if you can stash him but by no means is he worth anything more than that. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Didi Gregorius is not in the Yankees starting lineup on Tuesday.

Stephen Drew is getting the nod at shortstop on Tuesday with Jose Pirela getting the start at second base against southpaw Mike Montgomery who will be making his major league debut. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Brian McCann is not in the Yankees starting lineup on Tuesday.

McCann will sit against Mariners rookie southpaw Mike Montgomery. Montgomery was once a top prospect in baseball as a member of the Royals organization, being ranked as high as No.19 back in 2011 by Baseball America but has fallen out of the Top 100 prospect rankings over the past few seasons. Montgomery will be making his major league debut. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Ivan Nova (elbow) threw three innings in an extended spring training game on Tuesday.

The Yankees hope to start Nova on a minor league rehab stint next week at High-A Tampa and which could make his return to the Yankees rotation some time at the end of June. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Carl Landry had wrist surgery Tuesday and will be out four to five months.

Landry averaged 7.2 points and 3.8 rebounds off the bench for the Kings this season. The timetable for his return should have him ready to return about a month into the NBA season. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Dodgers designated LHP David Huff for assignment.

Huff appeared out of the bullpen over the past two days for the Dodgers, allowing two earned runs on four hits over two innings. Assuming he does not get claimed he will likely be reassigned back to Triple-A. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Dodgers optioned Austin Barnes to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

With the first game of the doubleheader out of the way, the Dodgers don't feel the need to carry a third catcher anymore. Barnes will go down while the Dodgers recall another reliever for the bullpen. Analysis: Howard Bender

Padres activated 1B Yonder Alonso from the 15-day disabled list.

The Padres were supposed to activate Alonso on Monday but opted to give him one more rehab start. He'll rejoin the big club Tuesday and will play first base and bat fifth. Considering the fact that he's coming back from a shoulder injury and has had wrist issues throughout his career, you can't expect much in the way of power at all. Not that he ever showed any in the first place. Analysis: Howard Bender

Padres optioned RHP Cory Mazzoni to Triple-A El Paso.

With Yonder Alonso set to return from the disabled list, the Padres will cut their bullpen a man short to bring him up and go with the extra bat for Tuesday's game against the Mets. Mazzoni could be back again when bullpen depth is needed. Analysis: Howard Bender

Dodgers selected contract of RHP Josh Ravin.

Ravin will provide some bullpen depth for the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader. He is likely to work some long relief if needed and could be sent down relatively soon after the game. Analysis: Howard Bender

Dodgers recalled Daniel Coulombe from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

The Dodgers are just getting a fresh arm for the bullpen for the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader. Coulombe doesn't have any fantasy value at this time. Analysis: Howard Bender

Kyle Blanks will begin an extended spring training assignment on Thursday.

Blanks was dealing with a cyst on his lower back, but he is apparently ready to start up some game action. He'll see work in a simulated game or two and if all goes well, he should go on a fairly short rehab assignment. Analysis: Howard Bender

Cameron Maybin (groin) says he “feels great” and expects to be back in the lineup on Wednesday.

Taking Maybin at his word is hardly something you should be doing, but everything does sound encouraging in that he isn't expected to miss more than the two games he's been out for so far. Continue to look for updates Wednesday before the game. Analysis: Howard Bender

Ryan Rua (ankle) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple A Round Rock on Wednesday.

As expected, Rua will start his rehab assignment this week and could be back with the big club as early as this weekend. Early next week might be a little more realistic but it just depends on how well his first few games go. Analysis: Howard Bender
