Michael Crabtree did not practice Wednesday because of a calf injury.

Crabtree was in the weight room today and we have no idea why he didn't practice. The 49ers are probably just resting Crabtree to make sure he is ready to go week 1 against Dallas. Once the injury report comes out we might have a clearer idea of what is going on with Crabtree. ANALYST:

Mets are reportedly willing to overpay to acquire Ben Zobrist.

The Mets could really use a player like Zobrist, as their defense has been a mess this season due to a variety of injuries and defenders playing out of position. While Zobrist won't provide a huge boost with the bat like the Mets could use, he would still be a big help to the club. Analysis: Ben Diamond

The Spurs, Suns and Blazers have separated themselves in the chase for LaMarcus Aldridge.

Aldridge is going to be one of the more expensive free agent signings, and it looks like it will be one of the three listed teams above that are willing to pay enough for his services. Analysis: Ben Diamond

Update: Miguel Cabrera was diagnosed with a left calf strain and will undergo an MRI.

This announcement from the team doesn't really provide much information outside of the confirmation that he did indeed suffer a calf injury. We should know more about the issue either tonight or tomorrow morning after the MRI. Analysis: Ben Diamond

Bud Norris is expected to be replaced by Kevin Gausman in the rotation.

Norris has had a very rough year, and right now just should not be starting for a major league team. There is no word yet whether he will be sent down to the minors or be sent to the bullpen, but either way, it's hard to imagine Norris reclaiming a rotation spot any time soon. Analysis: Ben Diamond

Jake Odorizzi threw a bullpen session on Friday. Manager Kevin Cash said Odorizzi will make another rehab start on Monday before returning to the Rays.

It looks like Odorizzi is just one more rehab start away from returning to the big league rotation, and he could be back before the All-Star break if all goes well in his next start. Analysis: Ben Diamond

David Wright said his back has improved and he is confident he will play this season.

It's nice to see that Wright's back has improved, but to be blunt, spinal stenosis is chronic and overall won't get much better, so it's hard to count on a return to effectiveness, or any return at all, from Wright.  Analysis: Ben Diamond

Miguel Cabrera appeared to hurt his calf and has left Friday's game.

Cabrera limped off the field trying to steal a base (?!), and it looks like he suffered a calf injury. While the issue could be no more than a slight strain, there's no way to know for certain. The Tigers should provide an update soon.  Analysis: Ben Diamond

Travis D'Arnaud (elbow) is unlikely to return from the disabled list when eligible.

D'Arnaud just cannot catch a break, and is expected to miss a significant amount of time with an elbow sprain. He is eligible to return on July 6th, but a return after the All-Star break is more likely.  Analysis: Ben Diamond

Josh Reddick expressed his frustration Thursday on a talk radio show about not being used against lefties.

Reddick has not played at times when the team is facing a left handed pitcher, which is due to Reddick's ugly performance against southpaws compared to righties. The frustration from Reddick comes from the fact that he has hit very well this season, so he feels he should be in the lineup as much as possible despite his recent struggles. It's unlikely that the A's will make a change without significant improvements from Reddick. Analysis: Ben Diamond

Will Middlebrooks (ankle) remains out of the Padres starting lineup on Friday.

Middlebrooks has been able to pinch hit as he recovers from a minor ankle injury, but has yet to start since the 26th. He was expecting to return to the lineup on Friday after going through agility drills successfully on Thursday, but instead Yangervis Solarte will start at third base in Middlebrook's place and hit fifth.  Analysis: Ben Diamond

Manager Bob Melvin says Coco Crisp is at home dealing with kidney stones.

Crisp just cannot escape the injury bug, as he is dealing with very painful kidney stones as he tries to recover from a severe neck injury that could require season ending surgery. Crisp has been limited to just 45 at bats this season and is currently on the 60-day DL, and it's doubtful that the Athletics are counting on any significant contribution from him this season. Analysis: Ben Diamond

Rajon Rondo has agreed to a one-year deal with the Kings.

There was some late buzz that Rondo could join the Lakers, but instead he'll sign with the Sacramento Kings for a one-year, $10 million deal. Rondo's season fell apart in 2014 after being traded to Dallas, but expectations will still be high for the point guard due to his track record. That being said, last year's meltdown for Rondo was jarring, as his assists per game fell from 10.8 to 6.5, and his rebounds went from 7.5 to 4.5 per game. Hopefully Rondo will become better acclimated with his team in Dallas, as if he can get it together, Rondo could be a key piece in his new team's playoff bid.  Analysis: Ben Diamond

Patrick Beverley has agreed to a four-year deal with the Rockets.

The 26-year old will return to Houston after spending his first three seasons with the team, averaging 8.9 points, 3 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game over his tenure. Last season was his best as a professional, and Beverley will look to earn an expanded role in the backcourt next season after averaging 30.8 minutes last season. The four-year deal is worth $25 million.  Analysis: Ben Diamond

Manager Terry Collins says Michael Cuddyer (knee) feels better and may be available to pinch hit.

Cuddyer has been a major disappointment so far this season, but considering the Mets offensive ineptitude, they need him to ride it out and play when available.  Analysis: Dom Murtha

Jason Garcia (shoulder tendinitis) will start rehab assignment on Monday.

He will take his time on the DL getting over this shoulder tendinitis, as the O's are in no rush to bring him back and have to demote someone on the active roster.  Analysis: Dom Murtha
