Mat Latos fell to 5-4 after allowing five runs on ten hits and a walk with two strikeouts over five innings against the Orioles on Tuesday.
The surface stats suggest that Latos is having another fine season. In fact, before his implosion Tuesday evening, he owned a more than respectable 3.15 ERA. If you dig a little, however, you'll find that Latos's skills are quickly deteriorating. He has a career-low strikeout rate in 2014 (6.60 K/9), and has lost significant fastball velocity in each of the last two seasons. It appears he's on the Jered Weaver career track.
