Fantasy Player Updates & News

Jose Reyes went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs scored in a victory over the Rays on Tuesday.

Known more for his speed, Reyes went deep on Tuesday night, hitting his ninth home run of the season. He has stayed relatively healthy all season and continues to be one of the better options at shortstop year in, year out.ANALYST: David Kerr

Mike Conley will reportedly "try to start" tonight.

This follows the report from earlier today where Conley was upgraded from doubtful. Conley hasn't played since taking an elbow to the face in Game 3 of Round 1. Analysis: Brett Talley

According to Padres Manager Bud Black, Derek Norris could start taking ground balls at first base soon.

This move makes plenty of sense as the Padres just promoted top catching prospect Austin Hedges to their major league roster. Hedges is a superior defensive catcher compared to Norris and should be a capable hitter at the major league level. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Recently recalled outfielder Eddie Rosario was held out of Tuesday's lineup because Manager Paul Molitor wants him to get "acclimated" to the major leagues.

Rosario was ranked the the No.60 prospect in baseball prior to the 2014 season but fell out of the Top 100 heading into 2015 and was hitting just .242 at Triple-A Rochester at the time of his promotion. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Neil Ramirez (shoulder) will throw off a mound Wednesday.

Ramirez is coming off an outstanding rookie season where he went 3-3 with a 1.44 ERA over 43.2 innings out of the Cubs bullpen but was injured after five games this season and played on the DL. His return would bring a huge boost to the Cubs bullpen. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

John Jaso (wrist) has not yet resumed baseball activities.

Jaso was placed on the 60-day DL with his wrist injury so his return was not happening any time soon but the fact that he's yet to resume baseball activities does not bode well for his season.  Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Jeff Samardzija is expected to drop his appeal of suspension following the Tigers series.

Samardzija was handed a five game suspension for his role in the White Sox and Royals bench clearing brawl a few weeks back. His suspension will cost him one start so fantasy owners will want to plan accordingly. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Devin Mesoraco (hip) will get at-bats as the designated hitter this weekend.

Mesoraco's hip injury has kept him sidelined as he's unable to catch but the move to the American League for a series will allow the Reds to get his bat into the lineup without doing further damage to his hip by playing the field. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Chris Capuano (quad) will likely move his rehab assignment from Class A Tampa to Double-A Trenton on Thursday.

The level of competition is not the goal of a rehab assignment as teams will often move players around to get the right amount of work in. It's expected that when Capuano does return he will enter the rotation but a final decision on his role has yet to be determined. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Seahawks have waived T Justin Renfrow, DE Julius Warmsley, C Jared Wheeler and FB Mike Zimmer.

These moves will open up roster spots for the Seahawks to sign their draft picks. Neither made any impact last season nor do they have any fantasy significance.  Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Tim Stauffer has resumed playing catch.

Stauffer was placed on the DL with a right intercostal strain but was awful out of the bullpen for the Twins prior to his injury, allowing nine earned runs over 9.2 innings. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Jedd Gyorko is not in the Padres' starting lineup on Tuesday.

Cory Spangenberg is getting the start at second base on Tuesday and will bat leadoff against Ryan Vogelsong and the Giants. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Tyler Matzek will pitch Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader and Jordan Lyles will start Game 2.

The first two games of the Rockies/Diamondbacks series has been postponed due to rain so the starters for those two games will now pitch both ends of the doubleheader on Wednesday. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Mitch Moreland (elbow) threw from 75 feet Tuesday and also took 25 swings off a tee.

Moreland had surgery to remove bone chips from his elbow so it's encouraging that he's already throwing and swinging as part of his rehab. When he returns he will provide depth off the bench at first base and the corner outfield positions. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Blake Parker has been designated for assignment.

Parker had not pitched in the majors this season but struggled in 2014, going 1-1 with a 5.18 ERA over 18 games out of the Cubs bullpen. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Ray’s Ramblings: Baseball Bums

A bum is a lazy or shiftless person. There certainly seem to be a lot of major league players – like Mesoraco and Rendon – that fit that bill through a month of action.
