General manager Trent Baalke expects the NFL to announce any discipline for 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith before Saturday at 1 p.m., at which time their 53-man roster must be set.

With all of these suspensions being handed out, the 49ers should be nervous about Smith's status as his infractions have been both serious and abundant. Considering his issues last year, it could be quite a few games he gets here.ANALYST: Howard Bender

DeMarcus Cousins is probable for Friday night's game in New Orleans.

Cousins has been dealing with a calf issue over the last week, but that issue seems to be behind him for now. He has played in the Kings' previous two games and will start on Friday against the Pelicans. He needs to be started in all formats. Analysis: David Kerr

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus confirmed Thursday that the Tigers’ closer job is not up for grabs.

The Tigers' closer job may not be up for grabs right now, but it won't be long before it is. Joakim Soria is the superior pitcher in Detroit's bullpen and talent usually wins out. The Tigers may stick with Nathan for a month or so, but the writing already seems to be on the wall. Be sure to stash Soria in your league, as there is a great chance he will take over the role at some point. Analysis: David Kerr

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Kole Calhoun (triceps bruise) left Thursday's game as a precaution.

Calhoun suffered a triceps contusion, so it is possible that he'll be out for a few days, though this isn't thought to be a serious injury. He is batting .316 this spring and will look to pick up where he left off last season in 2015. Analysis: David Kerr

Marc Krauss (back) hit on Thursday and is hoping to return to Cactus League action Friday.

Krauss is batting .500 this spring and is in the running for a bench spot, but back spasms are doing him no favors. He's hoping to get back on the field on Friday and likely will barring a setback. Though he has a decent chance to break camp with the Angels, he has no fantasy value at this time. Analysis: David Kerr

David Freese (hyperextended elbow) expects to be out at least a few days.

Freese was involved in a collision on Wednesday, but he told reporters that this injury wasn't serious. He is batting .282 this spring, so he has looked good at the plate, but he's always have injury issues. The veteran third baseman is a late-round pick in mixed leagues. Analysis: David Kerr

Coco Crisp (wrist) did on field work on Thursday, which was unexpected but must be a good sign. Manager Bob Melvin says Crisp was feeling a lot better after a cortisone shot for his elbow.

At Crisp's age, he is going to get hurt a lot, so if you get 120 games out of him, you have to be happy. There's a chance that he won't be ready for Opening Day, but he A's are doing everything they can to get him on the field. Sam Fuld and Craig Gentry will see increased at-bats if Crisp were to miss an extended amount of time. Analysis: David Kerr

Terrence Jones (ribs) will not play on Friday.

Jones is still recovering from a collapsed lung, so it is no surprise that he'll miss Friday's game. The Rockets are hoping to have him back within a week, but he's going to have to prove to be fully healthy before that happens. Analysis: David Kerr

Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said Thursday that Yasmany Tomas may open the season in the minor leagues.

Given the Tomas' performance this spring, this isn't all that surprising. Tomas hasn't looked good at the plate and he's been absolutely horrid at third base. The Diamondbacks would be wise to ship him to Triple-A so that he can get more seasoning before taking over a full time role. Analysis: David Kerr

Mike McDade was traded to Baltimore for future considerations.

McDade is 25 years old and owns a .261/.319/.401 triple slash over eight minor league seasons. He'll start the season at Double-A Bowie and is unlikely to see the big leagues this year. Analysis: David Kerr

Wizards are signing Will Bynum, according to source.

Bynum hasn't played yet this season and hasn't been relevant in several years. He will fill a deep bench role for the Wizards, but has no fantasy value. Analysis: David Kerr

Nick Martinez appears to be the front runner for the final spot in the starting rotation.

The Rangers are hurting for starting pitching and Martinez may take the fifth starter job by default. He appeared in 29 games for the Rangers last season and posted a pathetic K/9 of 4.9 over 140 1/3 innings pitched. His value is limited to AL-Only leagues. Analysis: David Kerr

Albert Almora was reassigned to minor league camp.

The Cubs reduced their roster to 40 players on Thursday and Almora was one of the casualties. He'll head back to minor league camp to receive more at-bats and should start the season at Double-A. Analysis: David Kerr
