Sergio Romo will share the closing opportunities with Santiago Casilla going forward.

Romo pitched a scoreless inning and recorded a hold on Thursday afternoon. He hasn't given up an earned run since July 19 and appears to be back to his old self. Don't be surprised if he see chances down the stretch, especially if Casilla falters at any point.ANALYST: David Kerr

Oscar Hernandez (wrist) could be activated from the disabled list this weekend.

Hernandez was a Rule 5 pick by the Diamondbacks this offseason but suffered a broken hamate bone which put him on the DL since the beginning of the season. His activation will force the Diamondbacks to make a decision at the catcher position with both Wellington Castillo and Jarrod Saltalamacchia on the roster. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Manager Pat Murphy says Will Middlebrooks is available to pinch hit on Tuesday.

Middlebrooks had been injured after tripping over a baseball bat but the issue is minor enough that he can come off the bench if the Padres need. Analysis: Jonathan Impemba

Update: Jacoby Ellsbury is out of the High-A Tampa lineup Tuesday with "general fatigue" in both legs.

Well there's the answer, although general fatigue is a rather vague diagnosis. No re-organized plan has been announced for his rehab so it doesn't sound too serious. Ellsbury should be ready to continue his assignment in a few days.  Analysis: Brian Rothstein

Corey Hart (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment on Tuesday.

The oft-injured Hart was brought in to platoon with Pedro Alvarez at first base, but he's logged just 54 at-bats with the Pirates slashing .222/.246/.352. He won't be a fantasy asset upon his return.  Analysis: Brian Rothstein

Jacoby Ellsbury was held out of Tuesday's lineup with the High-A Tampa.

Another day, another story about Ellsbury's creaky knee. He was originally supposed to be in the lineup, but obviously something's not right. No word on what that something is yet. This isn't good news for fantasy owners.  Analysis: Brian Rothstein

76ers declined to offer guard Glenn Robinson III a qualifying offer. He will become a free agent.

That's saying something if Robinson can't even get a qualifying offer from the talent starved 76ers. Philly does have an abundance of wing players though so maybe they decided there just wasn't a spot for him. He'll look to latch on elsewhere, but he might be best served by heading to the D-League for more work.  Analysis: Brian Rothstein

Cory Luebke (elbow) had his rehab assignment moved to Triple-A El Paso.

Leubke is making his way back from a second Tommy John operation. He'd been working at High-A Lake Elsinore, but the Padres decided he needed to face some stiffer competition. Leubke will hopefully be ready to return to San Diego after the break.  Analysis: Brian Rothstein

Update: Manager Bruce Bochy announces that Matt Cain will start on Thursday.

Cain hasn't pitched all year due to a forearm injury, but he's ready to roll. The pitching starved Giants desperately need Cain to come back healthy and looking good, but the right-hander hasn't been decent since 2012. Leave him be for the meantime until he gets a few starts under his belt.  Analysis: Brian Rothstein

Hunter Pence (wrist) will hit off a tee with a fungo on Tuesday.

Pence's troublesome wrist still isn't ready for live BP, but this is a start. Fantasy owners will have to check back and see how he responds, but he has many more hurdles to clear before he's ready to return to action. Pence likely is out until the All-Star break.  Analysis: Brian Rothstein

Jared Dudley has exercised his option to stay with the Bucks next season.

Dudley clearly didn't want to skip out on his $4.25 million player option. He'll once again function as a backup to Khris Middleton off Milwaukee's bench.  Analysis: Brian Rothstein

Anthony Rendon has been hitting in a cage and is a few days from on the field activities.

According to reports, Rendon's quad is still not close to being healthy. He can swing a bat, but he still can't run. Even if he can get back on the field for some baseball related activities, he likely won't be pushed to return before the All-Star break.  Analysis: Brian Rothstein

Bucks have waived Shawne Williams and Caron Butler.

Williams managed only 5.4 PPG on 40% shooting from the floor in 63 games last season. The veteran forward will look to latch on elsewhere.  Analysis: Brian Rothstein
