FANTASY PLAYER UPDATES & NEWS

Mike Trout went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI, two runs scored and two walks in the Angels 6-1 triumph over the Marlins on Wednesday night at Angel Stadium.

Much has been made of Trout's relatively cold second half, but he now has home runs in three of his last six games.ANALYST: Steve Pimental

Wandy Rodriguez will start Wednesday's Grapefruit League opener.

Rodriguez made just six starts last season, so he could probably use some extra work. His strikeouts have plummeted in recent years, but he did have a 3.59 ERA in 12 starts in 2013. He is a matchups play in mixed leagues but has some NL-only value. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Peter Bourjos (hip) has been a full participant in spring training with no reported problems.

Bourjos's hip has reportedly bothered him for years, so there is a slight chance he could return to hitting for moderate power and stealing bases like he did back in 2011. If is healthy he has a chance to compete with John Jay for the starting job in center field and is an intriguing deep-league pick. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Randal Grichuk (lower back soreness) hopes to be back on the field for a full workout on Monday.

Grichuk is slated to be the primary backup at both corner outfield spots for the Cardinals this season. He hit at least 20 home runs in each of the last seasons in the minors, and he has some upside should anything happen to Matt Holliday or Jason Heyward. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Mike Bolsinger (leg) was scratched from his scheduled live batting practice session Sunday

Bolsinger could be in the mix for a spot in the Dodgers rotation if one of the other starters goes down. He had a 4.06 FIP and 3.25 xFIP in nine starts with the Diamondbacks last season, but if he is not healthy he will likely fall behind Joe Weiland and Carlos Frias. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said he's never seen Justin Verlander throw better after Sunday's bullpen session.

That statement would carry a lot more weight had Brad Ausmus been in Detroit while Justin Verlander was actually good. Every pitcher looks and feels good in March, but there is no reason to believe Verlander will ever be the same patcher he was from 2009 to 2013. He is probably worth a late-round pick in mixed leagues, but fantasy players shouldn't expect much more than they got last season. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Update: Cavaliers head coach David Blatt says Kyrie Irving will be back Tuesday against Boston.

The shoulder injury will end up costing Irving two games altogether, and he should be just fine when he returns Tuesday. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Bulls say Jimmy Butler is questionable to return to Sunday's game with a left elbow sprain.

With Derrick Rose out, the Bulls cannot afford to lose Butler for any length of time. Tony Snell averaged 13.6 points per game in February, and he would be a must-add in 12-team leagues if Butler's injury is serious. Analysis: Steve Pimental

Astros pitcher Luis Cruz said his injured hand is feeling better. I threw Sunday and maybe a bullpen session on Monday, will see he said.

Cruz had a 3.14 ERA in 100.1 innings at Double-A last season, but he struggled in five starts at Triple-A. He has an outside chance to make the rotation out of camp if he stays healthy, but it is far more likely he begins the season at Triple-A.  Analysis: Steve Pimental

Addison Reed says his shoulder soreness is completely gone.

Reed is just 26 years old and has three consecutive seasons with at least 29 saves. As long as he can stay on the field he has an excellent chance of making it four seasons in-a-row.  Analysis: Steve Pimental

Mets manager Terry Collins said outfielders Michael Cuddyer and Curtis Granderson will split time in right field during spring training to see who's a better fit.

Whoever doesn't play in right field will play in left, so this position battle will not have much of a fantasy impact. Granderson and Cuddyer are both capable of putting up mixed-league numbers, but at this stage of their careers, neither has much upside. Analysis: Steve Pimental

The Rays moved pitcher Mike Montgomery to the bullpen.

Montgomery was once a top prospect, but at 25 years old, he still hasn't cracked the big leagues. Any lefty with a live arm has value out of the bullpen, but his odds of ever being relevant for fantasy are extremely small.  Analysis: Steve Pimental
