Cole Hamels allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk with five strikeouts over seven inngs in a no decision against the Nationals on Tuesday.
Hamels wasn't as sharp as usual on Tuesday, but he still turned in a solid performance. He remains one of the best pitchers in baseball and is a must start every time he takes the hill.ANALYST: David Kerr
Melvin Upton is not in the Padres lineup on Tuesday.
This appears to be a day of rest for the veteran outfielder who has actually, for him, been on a hot streak in his last 15 games hitting .273. Will Venable will lead off and play Center for San Diego with Kemp in Right and Justin Upton in Left batting third and fourth respectively. Analysis: Matt Selz
Dee Gordon has been activated from the 15-day disabled list.
A dislocated thumb on the last day before the All-Star break kept the speedster not only out of the mid-summer classic but out of the first week and a half of games since. Gordon is back to leading off for the fish as they take on Jordan Zimmermann and the Nationals Tuesday. Gordon is currently on pace for 80+ steals, a feat that hasn't happened in a couple of decades in the majors. Analysis: Matt Selz
Donovan Solano has been placed on paternity list.
First of all congratulations to Solano on the new arrival. Solano will miss a couple of games as he and his family welcome the new addition. The backup infielder has not seen much action this season as Dee Gordon and Martin Prado have locked down second and third respectively for the fish. Analysis: Matt Selz
Jose Reyes will be in a Rockies uniform for Wednesday's game.
Colorado acquired Reyes in the Tulowitzki trade that happened very late Monday night and so it will take the major pieces involved a day or so to catch-up with their new teams. Reyes should slot right in as the starting Shortstop for the Rox in place of Brandon Barnes who came in for Tulowitzki late in the game Monday. Analysis: Matt Selz
Aaron Brooks has been traded to the Athletics for Ben Zobrist.
Brooks has split time between Triple-A and Kansas City this season with the vast bulk of the time in Triple-A serving as a starter. It is unclear yet as to how the A's will seek to use him considering K.C. used him as a reliever out of the pen instead of a starter. If he is a starter for Oakland, he figures to be no better than a mid-rotation guy but most likely a back end starter. Analysis: Matt Selz
